Inspired by 6: If you could write out ONE character from a show, what character would it be?

And why? For bonus points, tell us what kind of ending you'd give them.

Hook on Once Upon a Time. I wish Rumpelstiltskin had ripped out his heart instead of cutting off his hand tbh. Much more satisfying and he couldn't ruin the rest of the show with his presence.

Heh, I hate Hook too, but honestly I wish he’d died (or stayed behind in Neverland) after taking out Pan (and I wish Pan had been his dad rather than Rumple’s.). There was a scene written (and filmed? Idk) where little Rumple goes to fetch some water and comes back to find his dad being beaten to death for skipping out on his debts, which makes more sense than canon. It would’ve tied Hook to Neverland more firmly, because honestly Killian Jones as written had fuck-all to do with the story of Peter Pan.

The only reason I’d want Rumple to rip out Hook’s heart would be so he’d never become Hook in the first place—because Milah would’ve made a way better Captain Hook.

Either way, Hook made a piss-poor protagonist up until season 7 when they gave him a whole new personality and motivation and finally stopped chaining him and Emma together in every scene.

oh my god Milah would have made the BEST Captain Hook!

Matthew Brock on NewsRadio

(Anonymous) 2018-10-11 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
He had his moments, I suppose, but mostly the character was kind of obnoxious and not in an endearing way, plus it's Andy Dick, who lives down to his name.

Falls at home and is eaten by his cats.

Andy Dick is terribly annoying, but he was fine on Newsradio, due to the magic spell of Newsradio that made everyone likable and funny, even Joe fucking Rogan

also, Joe Rogan turning into his character from Newsradio is extremely funny

Negan on The Walking Dead. Maybe then I'd still be interested in watching.

I would have written out Jerry in Parks and Recreation while the show was on. Not because I didn't like Jerry, but because I did. The Jerry jokes just got too mean. I feel like the show didn't really know what to do with him, so just made him the butt of the joke.

I always felt like this was somewhat counterbalanced by the fact that Jerry was a fundamentally happy person with an extraordinarily great life

I realize as a comics Daredevil fan this is like writing out the Joker, but Wilson Fisk. I just cannot stand D'Onofrio, he is so overrated, a lot of his scenes are boring and I just don't give a fuck about him.

13 on House. Her plane to Thailand crashes and lands on a remote south Pacific island populated by mean natives. Who turn out to be cannibals. One little cannibal kid has her for a snack.

Dude, get some therapy, that's a really disturbing fantasy over a fictional character and borderline fucking racist.

cook from skins

he goes to prison in 4.03 and stays there like his plot development said he should, rather than busting out because (he was bored / the writers liked him too much) and getting to deliver fucking ridiculous speeches about how "it's all about the duality of life and death" at the end of a subseason that saw one person dead from cancer, one drowned, two shot and one hung from a tree

Spike should have come to his senses sooner and drained her.
Or Darla.
Or Jesse.

I don't like Tom from Parks and Recs, he was so obnoxious and selfish and was given way too many chances. I'd write him out, and give Donna more screen time. The ending I'd give him is he makes a bad business decision and some loanshark wants to break his legs, so he has to pack up and run.

Chakotay from Voyager, because he's an idiot with the personality of a moldy tree stump, the problem-solving skills of a drunk mosquito and a smaller range of facial expressions than a Vulcan. Also because he's a former terrorist who treats Seven like shit, has half the charisma of a beardless Riker and often has random traits/hobbies/interests tacked on for the duration of an episode and then never mentioned again. I'd get rid of him by either having him chopped down by an alien lumberjack who mistakes him for an ambulatory tree or by being rejected for assimilation by the Borg, who then flush him out of an airlock because his presence on their cube is an inefficient use of space.

Ted Mosby. His friends all realize what an asshole he is and abandon him. Robin becomes the POV character.

Rose Tyler. The Doctor realizes she's obsessed and that it isn't good at her and drops her off at home and then moves on with his life.

Very agreed on Ted. Can't offer an opinion on Rose, it's been way too long since I watched any Who.

Lori from TWD and Bedelia from Hannibal

[personal profile] soldatsasha 2018-10-12 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
The big one is Lori from TWD. She added nothing to the plot outside of an unnecessary and infuriating love triangle. She basically exists purely to give Rick and Carl some angst. And her entire plotline was just a repeating loop of her doing something stupid or self-centered and the audience is supposed to be entertained by this or feel bad for her??????

OR, or....

I would write out Bedelia from Hannibal. (I KNOW this is heresy, because Gillian Anderson was phenomenal and the character is great, but!) I thought that overall her inclusion weakened a lot of the later season storylines. Her character was really redundant and didn't add much that was unique. I think pretty much all of her scenes could have easily been rewritten with Alana, Abigail, or Will in her place without losing anything, and the end result would have been more cohesive and believable.

The only plotline that might not work as well without her is the "I believe you" thing when Will's locked up. And that could easily be shifted onto Katz, Freddie, Purnell, or even Margot. The strength of the plotline isn't that it's coming from Hannibal's psychiatrist, it's that anyone believes Will at all.

I agree with you on Lori from TWD. She was just... useless.
