Yay, Misha appreciation! I definitely agree with you, OP. I really loved him as Casifer. Really, all the times he's had to play someone else have been pretty great, even with the weird accents he sometimes ends up doing.

Haven't seen Supernatural since like season 5, but I agree. Padelecki (the lanky one, right?) was the poorest actor, and he got worse as the seasons went on because he got way less cute. Misha was good. The older brother was fine, but I don't think that role is a really challenging one so who can say.

Haven't watched since season 5, but I loved Misha back then. Padalecki is terrible. He probably could have been better, but he's lazy and careless about his craft and comes off as unprofessional.

I don't actually go here, I just want to co-sign the JarPad hate.

Wow, the hate is weird. In the comments, i mean.
*shrug*

I enjoy the three leads, and as far as i'm concerned, they can all act better than i ever could, so i'm good.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-17 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
I think Jared is the weakest of the three but yeah, he still does a better job than I probably could.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-19 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
No offense, but I always find that argument weird. The worst surgeon is probably better at it than the average citizen, but you don’t see people saying “I’d like to see you do better” when one cuts off the wrong leg. Why should actors get a pass on the basis that they’re better at their jobs than people who aren’t trained and paid to do them?

Actor gossip!

I have zero personal experience with JP, but I work in the film industry in Vancouver, and I've heard some stories from a person who worked pretty heavily on the show. This guy didn't actually trash talk JP much (he claimed JP was an ok dude), but he did say that JP's use of steroids was creating issues for a while - both in terms of him sometimes raging out (though not to the point of assaulting anyone), and also in terms of him dwarfing his costars and being too big for most of the clothes they wanted to put him in - as well as sometimes sweating through his clothes before they could get the scene finished. Lol.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-17 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
He was using steroids? Well damn, that's sad.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-17 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's too bad. I mean, it's too bad he went there and it's too bad he felt like he needed to. But honestly, I'm kind of under the impression that steroid/HGH use is pretty normalized in Hollywood, especially in "leading man action star" circles. Not unlike how normalized cosmetic procedures are in Hollywood. For some of these actors, it's all just stuff you do for the job. And it's just an open secret.

Not that I'm saying I think every action star out there is jacked up on steroids. But I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of them are. Because it's like, "I'm an actor, and I've got this great role, but I need to look jacked for it - which has nothing to do with my acting, but it's still a requirement of the job. So I could spend four hours a day in the gym...or I could take steroids, and spend three of those hours working on my acting, or hanging with my family." I'm definitely NOT pro steroids, but at the same time, I can see how using them (especially if you can afford the best/least side-effects kind) could start to seem like the rational choice.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-17 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, with a doctor advising, hgh isn't that bad n

(Anonymous) 2018-10-17 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Does he still use? And does he use steroids? most actors use HGH. Just a BIT safer.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-17 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know much about steroids, so I didn't ask this guy if he know what type JP was using. It may well have been HGH. I don't think the guy knew whether JP had stopped using completely, but he was under the impression that JP had at least dialed back his use.

The period of time ~my source~ was telling me about was pretty early in SPN's run - I guess probably around S3-ish? What he told me was that the guy from the CW's failed Aquaman show was using because he felt like he really needed to bulk up to play Aquaman. And he and JP would work out together, and they were both pretty competitive about their gains, which lead to JP going overboard for a bit. Which makes sense because that was around the time when JP's size increased from tall, slim dude who's gaining some muscle, to guy who is built like a monster truck.

But, I mean, I definitely don't count any of this as certain fact. I'm about 95% sure my source wasn't making it all up. The basics are probably accurate, IMO. But there may also be set gossip and speculation mixed in there.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-17 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, it makes sense. Especially like how he looked in season 6.

And HGH would make more sense because while he is muscular, it is more slim. Steroids have a very distinct looking bulk.

I've not seen the show in a while, so not sure is he is still a brick house.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-17 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I haven't watched the show in a long time. I'm not actually an avid fan of SPN, although I enjoyed the early seasons I did watch.

I don't recall seeing JP looking obviously smaller over time. But I hear maintaining is easier than building, so it doesn't seem impossible that he could be maintaining naturally. Also, when he was at his biggest, they were probably struggling to make him look a little less massive on screen. Because contrary to what most people probably think, it's definitely possible for a male actor to get bigger than desired. (I mean, probably not if you're playing Thor or whatever, but Sam was obviously not originally conceived of as an extremely muscular character.)

(Anonymous) 2018-10-17 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Season 5 was when JP was at his largest and he was massive bulking up because the show was supposed to end and he was auditioning for a Conan movie and another action movie. They've talked about the massive bulk up and how in season 6 and 7 you can see him start to tone down.

Misha's great, Jensen is great at playing...Dean. Dean in a hat, Dean in the future, Dean in the past--as long as it's Dean, he's good. JarPad sucks and strikes me as a jerk besides.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-17 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
While I think that Jensen is a better actor, I think you are absolutely right about Misha shining more even with sub par writing. His Cassifer was amazing.

And co-signing that Jared is the worst actor, and his shennanigans on Twitter and conventions makes me think he's an ass.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-17 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. I think MC is a good enough actor, but nothing to write home about. Definitely not the best, though. I'm quite surprised at all the people agreeing, but different strokes for different folks, I guess, and it would be a boring world if we all agreed on everything.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-17 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Misha did a great Lucifer, esp when he was being tortured by the Darkness. He's a really good actor. Ditto Ackles, who really brings it...the episode where he entered Mary's dream? Holy crap. "I hate you. I really hate you." That was remarkably well done. He can go from rage to euphoria within moments. He's really good. They have him doing some stupid stuff and he makes it credible.

Padalecki is just awful. He has exactly one thing he does, which is he flattens and twitches his mouth a lot to imply he's suppressing emotion. It is his only trick and it just looks stupider than stupid. He's pretty tho.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-19 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like everyone is on crazy pills because having to watch Misha play at Lucifer is one of the worst things I've ever had to experience in my life. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
