People don't put nearly enough effort into episode titles anymore. I get where you're coming from, OP.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
You think those titles took effort?!

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Those are lovely episode titles?

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you saying you don't like them or are you agreeing that they're lovely, I can't tell

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, I'm not angry at them, but they're not... striking or poetic to me, and some of them are even a little clunky/weird to me as well.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
They're a little awkward but they do seem evocative.

They read like someone is trying to evoke a sort of Buddha/Confucius vibe, but they mostly come off as Bad Engrish.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah I think that's what bugs me about them, and why they come across as choppy.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Remember a while back there was a discussion on FS about people who use "ethnic" as a descriptor? That type of person is probably entranced by the idea of using the names of a bunch of kung fu moves as episode titles.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
But... it's a kung fu series, that's literally the genre of the series to start with

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
So naming the episodes after kung fu moves isn't particularly poetic or any more creative than, say, Friends' "The one with the..." motif.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
that doesn't make sense at all

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok... explain how naming episodes of a kung fu show after kung fu moves is creative, because from the outside it sounds a lot like naming your dog Woof-Woof. They didn't "create" anything with these titles - they pulled them wholesale from a list of kung-fu sequences that they thought sounded cool.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt - You don't like the titles, we get it.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
There's nothing wrong with them. They're just not creative or poetic. There's plenty of good cats named Fluffy, friend.

I'm female and a POC and I use "ethnic" as a descriptor. I'm not sure it's the big red flag you seem to be implying it is.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
Just because you're black doesn’t mean you can't be an American centric ignorant asshole. It just means you think you have a free pass to be an American centric asshole about the rest of the world.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
And the same for all other American POCS.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
wtf

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL for assuming I'm black because I said "POC". I'm Chinese. And the word really, really isn't as inflammatory as you're trying desperately to make it out to be, for some reason.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's like... "I can use the N word because it's in that song lyric!" red flag level, but the only people I've seem to use the word ethnic as a descriptor seem like the kind of people who say things like, "You know, the Oriental woman!"

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean the kind that say "minorities" in that sort of hushed tone like maybe that Brazilian family in front of them doesn't realize they're not white?

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting. IME as a POC, people who use terms like "oriental" to describe people generally fail to grasp what "ethnic" even means, much less use it.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I agree entirely. It’s about as creative as Supernatural using the names of Led Zeppelin tracks as episode titles. A nice homage but hardly 'poetry'.
