I usually don't want characters to suffer, but I think I'd make an exception for her.

Agreed.

I don't have a preference for however she dies, but I definitely do not want the obvious valonqar to be Jaime.

I thought the obvious valonqar was Tyrion. Considering they are both opposing her and how badly she messed up their lives it seems they are the only right candidates to do it.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I think Tyrion is the obvious one, Jaime is supposed to be the surprise.

I guess after 12 years in the fandom, it seems obvious to me that Tyrion is a red herring. Cersei beats the audience over the head with her suspicions so much that he probably will not be the one to kill her. And so, that leaves her other younger brother.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean he's both. He's the obvious candidate for the prophecy (especially in Cersei's view), but he's also an obvious red herring. Jaime is "obvious" in the sense that you (and many, many other readers) have seen through the fake out, but the way it's written, GRRM intends Tyrion to be the obvious choice and that Jaime will be the twist. It's not a great twist, particularly now. But IMO, that's what's intended.

Also, I keep forgetting we're talking about the show and not necessarily the books, so maybe Jaime isn't necessarily as obvious as he might appear to be in the books.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Not at first anyway, because he and Cersei's relationship doesn't devolve as quickly, I think.

I like the Euron theory myself, especially given the line of the prophecy about her 'drowning in her own tears' first. The combination of 'drowned' and 'younger brother' do make me like Euron for it, and he's also ... he's the sort of man that Cersei would think she could manipulate, but Euron's crazy is like an order of magnitude or so above where she thinks it is. Given her own crazy, I kind of like the idea of her just being straight outclassed in that regard and dying due to her own arrogance.

Though the drowning in her own tears bit also makes me wonder idly about Sansa, given her experiences with Petyr, Joffrey and Lysa, and the association with the Tears of Lys. If 'valonqar' is gender neutral, she could be a dark horse outside chance here. I don't think she's the sort to strangle someone with her bare hands if a poisoning went wrong, though. Not even now. Coldly order it, yes. Physically do the deed, no. Though her and Arya as a team might be an interesting option.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
No, "valonqar" isn't gender neutral, AFAIK. It's High Valyrian for "little brother".

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
There was a theory about it possibly being gender-neutral since the prince in 'prince who was promised' turned out to be. I think the idea is that there could be a general translation issue with High Valyrian nowadays, and a lot more of the nouns could be gender-neutral than modern Westerosi translations allow for. That said, I know, it probably isn't that likely. Like I said, I was thinking more dark horse, outside chance with that one.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Has the show decreed who the "prince who was promised" actually is, or are there still just theories and multiple candidates?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Cersei is a mess, for sure. She's done awful things. Yet, I can't help but feel sorry for her. Really all the Lannister kids were messed up by their fathers ridiculously high expectations.

On one hand I think Jaime and Tyrion have good reason to want to kill her since she massively fucked up their lives. On the other hand her life is such a tragedy already.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I want her to die in childbirth after realizing she has given birth to a dwarf.

Well, damn. That would be fitting.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, that would be coming full circle, wouldn't it!

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh! Good one! A nice bit of incest karma too.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Incest karma? wtf. They were both consenting adults, regardless of the fact that they were related.

I love her, and I want her to have a horrible death because she deserves it. Idk if show-Cersei is going to have the same fate as book-Cersei though since it's veered off pretty differently these days, I'm half expecting her to get mulched by a white-walker in some respect.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-03 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The Lannisters kind of have a theme around being killed by the ones they love/the ones who should have loved them, though. Usually family. Tyrion is responsible for Joanna and Tywin, Cersei is responsible for Tommen. Myrcella and Joffery weren't killed by family, but their deaths were both knock-on effects of their parents'/uncle's/grandfather's actions, and they both died in either Cersei or Jaime's arms. Tyrion isn't immune either, since he was almost killed by Cersei, Joffery, Tywin and Shae, all of whom were either family or loved ones. The Lannisters' whole thing is how the family has basically destroyed themselves, either through their actions towards those around them or just through straight-up kinslaying, with Tyrion, Joffery and Cersei all getting in on the action there. The valonqar being either Tyrion or Jaime, while obvious, would actually suit their theme very well.

I don't actually think it will be them, mind you, though I give Jaime higher odds than Tyrion. I'm just saying it would actually be fairly appropriate for the whole theme of the family.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, this is why I think it'll be Jaime. Martin has strongly telegraphed it in the books, anyway and as you said, it fits his theme.
