Because there are times when Doctor Who is not awesome. When it's badly made, or at least seriously flawed. At least, that's a viable opinion that people can express. It doesn't mean that they're negative nancies who are only hatewatching and bringing down the fandom. Every era of Classic Who and Modern Who has its problems, and some of those problems are more or less serious.

Personally, I don't think that this season is terrible, but I do think Chibnall's writing hasn't been up to snuff so far.

So did I (except I haven't seen Solo yet). It's not impossible (or probably even that rare).

This is a really sweet/cute secret. ♥

Ships.

In either meaning of the word, probably.

I think "the normal one" usually referred to the fact that he didn't particularly excel at anything. Harry was the Boy Who Lived and Hermione was top of the school, but Ron was just an average teenager; ok at most things, bad at some and better at others, a firm friend with a good sense of humour but with the usual teenage social pitfalls. I was in HP fandom when the books were coming out and most people seemed to over-identify/project/wish fulfill on either Harry or Hermione, but Ron was more like the regular friend in the background of your daydreams rather than the character you actually pretend you are.

I never dislike Hermione, but on my first read around she came across as the smart girl who was SUPER defensive about it because that was like... her defining thing. If she wasn't the Smart One, who was she (is the vibe I got from her).

Now, that could just be the writing, and it never excuses the way Snape treated her, but I don't remember anyone else being cruel to her because she was smart? I mean, Umbridge was a bitch to everyone, so I don't think that counts.

Ron is clearly meant to embody the everyman archetype. I think that's all people mean when they use the word "normal." It doesn't mean you have to relate to him or that you're abnormal if you don't. Just that a lot of people probably would relate to him as a character who has some good traits and some bad traits but overall isn't very remarkable.

He isn't a victim, so if that's your standard for relatability (as it appears to be in the wording of this secret), then no, Ron Weasley probably won't work for you.

I just got home from a Christmas party @ work. I'm going to another one with band tomorrow.

I'm hoping to get some presents bought inbetween *g*

(Anonymous) 2018-12-07 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Very well put. I appreciate the acting that went into it and I think it was on point... but it's so good that I can't bring myself to like the character at all.

IA that people get too worked up about it, but it's usually because sports team loyalties are a stand-in for some other kind of identity or loyalty - whether it's ethnic, or regional, or political - or some other, underlying issue.

To quote CLR James: " I am equally certain that in those years social and political passions, denied normal outlets, expressed themselves so fiercely in cricket (and other games) precisely because they were games... The British tradition soaked deep into me was that when you entered the sporting arena you left behind you the sordid compromises of everyday existence. Yet for us to do that we would have had to divest ourselves of our skins... Nor could the local population see it otherwise. The class and racial rivalries were too intense. They could be fought out without violence or much lost except pride and honour. Thus the cricket field was a stage on which selected individuals played representative roles which were charged with social significance."

DA

Same. I've heard *zip* and I would definitely have heard something about this with the way the Tumblr purity brigade loves jumping up on its holier-than-thou pedestal at the slightest provocation.

Who Should Host The Oscars?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-07 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Clearly, it's now an emergency, so who do you want to see host the Oscars? Who would you choose if you were in charge of it?

Going by the secrets this past week, Harry Potter... ALWAYS.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-07 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you enjoy the Mandalore arcs on The Clone Wars? I thought TCW introduced some interesting ideas and characters that could possibly be expanded on in The Mandalorian.

I definitely see that. And now... I gotta fire this bitch up on Netflix, you've given me a craving!

You can search 'fanvid', 'femslash fanvid', 'slash fanvid', or 'multiship', and each will give you quite a few results.

Me. But since I don't who to get in contact with, John Mulaney.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-07 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a visual novel. Available on Steam and mobile apps.I played on my phone. It's a good game.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-07 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. The Fetts aren't Mandalorians, but I am sick of both. Most of the proposed live action ideas sound so uninspired and boring (except for Obi-Wan). At least the EU is providing really interesting stuff.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-07 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
But can we just say what we like or dislike about the show without bashing other seasons, writers, showrunners, actors, etc? Fandom would be a nicer place without unnecessary confrontations.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-08 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Completely agree! I didn't even bother for the true ending when I found out the requirements. Also, Luke is the worst.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-08 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Mte, lol. Especially this: "At the moment it seems to be a blur of indistinguishable Chrisses at every turn."

Oh, what a swell guy. You've convinced me not to find him annoying in their interactions.

No, wait. I still find him annoying.
