Disney had nothing to do with them canceling the Netflix shows. All of this is on Netflix. Nor will Disney carry them over because Netflix owns those shows and I doubt Disney thinks they will be profitable enough to buy back.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-08 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Where are you getting this information?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-08 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
From Netflix's mouth.

While many have feared that Netflix could lose the right to make and show the likes of Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, the deal inked means that’s simply not the case – Disney owns the underlying property, but the shows remain very much Netflix’s to do with as it pleases.

“As long as they keep making those shows, they continue on Netflix,” said Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos.

“Our Marvel series that Disney produces for us - we own those shows. They run until we cancel them.”

That was from a year ago. https://www.techradar.com/news/love-the-netflix-marvel-shows-dont-worry-the-disney-streaming-service-cant-touch-them

Also, anyone paying attention will notice that Netflix has been getting rid of any shows they don't produce. Hence why they got rid of American Vandal even though people love it.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-08 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure that's technically true, but I wouldn't take anything that a company says in a press release without a huge grain of salt, and I'm sure that even if Netflix does own the show, Disney can make it difficult for them to actually exploit those shows.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-08 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
So...instead of actual words from Netflix saying so, you are just going to ignore that because "SCARY DISNEY!!!!"

Okay.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-08 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a press release, so no, I'm not going to take it at face value.

More like, instead of trusting the bland, PR-friendly wording of a press release, they're going to acknowledge that there's a lot of show business decisions that are not discussed with the general public and it's really naive to think otherwise.

I thought Netflix cancelled because Disney owns Marvel now and didn't want Netflix profiting from 'their' IP?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-08 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
You know that Disney has owned Marvel for years? Far longer than the life of the Netflix shows.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-08 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know that actually! Honestly I'm not very good at following which company owns/is owned by what.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-08 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Here is a infographic over who owns what.

http://nerdist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Marvel-Infographic-rights-2018.jpg

Disney has owned the bulk of Marvel since 2009.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-08 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, merci! :)

(Anonymous) 2018-12-08 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
When did Disney announce their new proprietary streaming service

(Anonymous) 2018-12-09 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
August 2017. Why?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-08 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Even if Disney somehow decide to continue the shows, quality will take a massive hit. I don't want a Daredevil that is SHIELD/Inhumans tier with piss poor budget, poor cinematography and bad writing. And don't even get me started on the PG rating.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-08 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a very good point. I don't think media has to be rated R to be good, but not everything has to be PG. The Marvel shows on Netflix wouldn't be quite the same if everything was toned down, and I think it'd do the storylines or the characters a disservice.

SOMEone doesn't watch Legion.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-09 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Stylistically, Legion is gorgeous. But it's also not on Disney's own streaming service and isn't limited to a PG rating and it has a shorter episode run per season. We could certainly hope that if Daredevil, etc. continued on Disney's service, we'd see a similar investment in budget and cinematography (and I hope more coherent writing) but I personally would not take that bet.

Nothing is on Disney+ yet because it's not available yet. We won't know until it is.

I'm just saying while AoS/Inhumans is one end of the spectrum, Legion and Runaways is the other.
