Ah, the perils of casting child actors you then have to follow to adulthood. Ginny probably wasn't supposed to end up being taller than Harry, either, I would assume :)

I like that the actress is taller than Harry's actor. Of course, the actor is also shy and withdrawn and nothing like Ginny (shew was even too much for young!Ginny, IMHO, who was only shy and withdrawn around Harry). But the taller part was cool.

Not very attractive, no, but that's not why he was my least favorite character in the films. But I never read the books so I don't know if his character was supposed to be that insufferable and selfish?

Pretty much. He had the same arc in the book. The thing is, his DH revelations just took to long for me. He should have figured out those things sooner. Like, if you're going to be the best friend of the hero who is risking their life, trying to save lives, maybe you shouldn't be focused on competition and money and jealousy and such? IDK, always bugged me about him. I like him okay, and he does have lots of good moments, but he's not a favorite for me because the bad really bothered me.

I think the one thing that maybe the movies did is they didn't put as many of his good scenes in. So it seems like there is more of the bad than the good when it isn't really that way in canon. But those particular personality traits irritate me regardless.

Yeah, he was a kid in the beginning but boy he's sure slow growing up in comparison, and there aren't a lot of positive moments for him once things get serious, just like you said: jealousy, competition, and pettiness. Where he really lost me was when he threw a hissy fit in Deathly Hallows just as Hermione finally figured out how to destroy the Horcruxes. Sure, Ron was wearing one at the time, but they'd all been trading off so that's not much of an excuse, especially since he takes it off before ditching Hermione and Harry in the Hallows.

I've seen all the movies except DH part 2 and I...dont really see what is so weird or ugly about how he looks? He just looks extremely British and thats not terrible.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-28 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
IA. I’d argue he looks the most in place of the 3 because he looked so British.

That and I recently saw a photo of Rupert Grint and my first thought was that he looked like a sweet person. Also that he looks a little high but that’s beside the point:

Yeah, he has a Nice face. It's not what I ever envisioned for Ron (who I always imagined to have longer, skinnier face), but I don't hold anything against Rupert.

I don't know if he had the Ron face, but he definitely had the Ron voice.

Rupert Grint is a pleasant-looking average-looking guy (and was a decent looking child). I question your judgement!

(Anonymous) 2018-12-28 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Rupert Grint is a great comic actor and you're a dickhead

(Anonymous) 2018-12-28 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
From the amount of fan crushes people had on him, I'd have thought he had the same issue as Emma Watson: he was too attractive to be Ron.

I like how he looks. It really emphasizes the differences between the three of them

He's average.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-28 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Not Hollywood average, just actually average.

I would say that British media has slightly less emphasis on being beautiful.

Though, child actors worldwide tend to either be cute or goofy-looking, occasionally both.

Re: He's average.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-28 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
This. I think people are used to Hollywood average, which is still above average in the general population. Kind of like when they cast a beautiful woman, then mess up her hair, dress her in unflattering clothes and minimal make up and give her glasses and that's supposed to make her an unattractive ugly duckling.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-28 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
Rupert Grint can at least act, which is more than I can say for the prettier Dan and Emma.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-28 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I'd say Tom Felton aged the worst. His fivehead and unfortunate hairline...yikes.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-28 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Whaaaat. Rupert Grint is hot as fuck when they don't give him stupid clothes and a stupid haircut. And Ron's supposed to be lanky and awkward anyway.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-28 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I think he looks fine. Other than being a redhead and wearing hand-me-down clothes, I don't remember any description of what Ron is supposed to look like, anyway. If grown-up Rupert Grint wasn't what you pictured in your head, that's your problem and not a failure on the part of Grint or the casting folks. It's not like anyone could predict or control how the kids would look when they grew up.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-28 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn’t think Grint looked ugly or out of place; I think Watson and Radcliffe both grew up and were styled to look too Hollywood-normal—that is, more or less models. I don’t even like Ron as a character but it was nice that one of the trio looked like a normal person.
