This is the funniest thing I've read all day.

Reverse isekai is where it's at tbh. And there's a difference between not liking something and going on and on about how misogynist and terrible the author is, who's apparently female. Think the virtue signaling comments are mostly directed towards the later.

Reverse isekai recs, please? I’ve been wondering who would serve as the villain in such a story. (So far, the answer seems to be “another fantasy character,” but that’s not really a reverse.)

The Devil is a Part-timer and Maid Dragon is all that's coming to mind right now. They're both comedies though.

From what I've heard, the author's gender is unknown as they use a pen name. The pen name sounds like a woman's name so people have assumed they are female, but it's not for certain. And it's not like women can't be misogynists. And considering this series justifies its premise with 'evil harpybitch accuses poor innocent cardboard-kun of rape' I can see why some people think poorly of the author.

At this point there are so many sjw buzzwords my brain just gets static when I read one. What’s virtue signalling again?

Pretending to be good so people like you I think.

Cheers. The secret makes sense now :)

And virtue signaling is not a phrase that pro-social-justice people use. It's a phrase that "anti sjw" people use when they don't think someone making an sj argument actually cares.

When someone comments about a social issue to look good among their peers instead out of genuine concern.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-12 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

(Anonymous) 2019-01-12 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the accusation people make when they get butthurt that anyone dares to criticize or dislike something they like over anything that might be construed as a social justice issue.

I'm cheering on Chad Thundercock.

I still like isekai but only if it's shoujo

I'm not an anime fan and I don't even know what isekai means but I find the idea of a guy getting reincarnated as a vending machine fucking hilarious. It sounds like Quantum Leap crack!fic.

Isekai is a type of story about a person being transported to another world and having to live there. It's a very popular premise for light novels these days, and it almost always so happens that the main character meets a variety of attractive girls in this new world who all want to fuck him and that's what the story's really about. It can get weird depending on what the other world is like, and usually it'll have wacky otherworldly magic or societal norms that factor into the girls' attempts to fuck the MC. I don't know the vending machine series, but I'm sure even that would not be immune to this premise.

If they want to fuck the vending machine, that's just hilarious.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-13 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't that be isekai + harem?

For a funny one that isn't a harem manga (although one of the characters sort of has a harem), check out Chihou Kishi Hans no Junan. But I think it's making fun of the others.

Already tired of all the people claiming that someone must be one of those awful SJWs if they even consider it to be a bit of misstep to have your protagonist's major defining betrayal moment be an Obviously Evil woman falsely accusing him of rape. I watched the first ep not knowing about the controversy and found that part a bit side-eye worthy, read a bit of the manga to see if it got any better, and then dropped it when it turned out that it's just another one of those grimdark series that assume rape and slavery automatically makes it dark and gritty while never actually delving into those themes in any meaningful way. It's dark and edgy for people who assume that coating your story in a haze of black automatically makes it dark and edgy. The fanboys jumping up to yell about all the special snowflakes that just can't handle the realness just make the series look worse. Sadly it's just generic isekai but with slavery bc that's a thing now apparently.

If it's a show nobody would have heard of if not for people loudly proclaiming how Problematic it is, I'd consider that virtue signaling. Most people, even avid anime fans, don't bother to look for light-novel-based isekai shows unless they're A) already fans of that genre, or B) virtue-signalers who want to tell everyone how horrible the show is. I mean, I'd never heard of this show before this secret, so... hmmm.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-13 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
It's more that outrage clicks and wank is unfortunately a good way to build a following and even the supposedly professional sites aren't above it.

It was moderately popular pre-anime: regular threads on /a/ and a decent following on manga sites too. So not unheard of with avid fans, but easy to ignore. But now that's it got an anime, people won't stop shit stirring.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-13 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
That's simply not true. If you're used to the kind of surface-level fandom, sure, but within the more devoted anime community, there was already a huge built-in audience of manga and light novel fans. Crunchyroll picked it to co-produce because they knew it would be a huge hit. These kinds of series always are. Alt-right fans just like to convince themselves that they're "owning the libs" by watching shows with a lot of fan service, rape, and slavery and whip themselves up into a frenzy over it.

What about the guy reincarnating as a hot spring? What about it, OP?
