That's nothing! Pretty sure I'm in love with the Monarch.

Unfortunately my numerous rewatches have done absolutely nothing to change how DTF this garbage man I am.

I'm not too familiar with Venture Bros. but, uh, is this the character who's a pedophile and has molested the boys at some point?

IIRC, he started as a super soldier like Captain America, and the serum amped up his kiddie fetish... he eventually went nuts and became the full-on super villain Sargeant Hatred, was a bonafide Johnny Quest type bad guy (and implied to have molested little boys, or at least been really into twinks). Then he joined a super villain guild and got married to a petite Native American woman, and... mellowed out a lot. Lots of plot happened with the villain guild and he was switched over to another agency, put on anti-pedo meds and became the Ventures’ security guy. It was implied the combination of meds, and Hank and Dean being too old for him by then, resolved any potential problems.

Basically it was okay for him to be written as a deviant when he was a 2nd string antagonist, and the writers kept him around to mine the pathetic shell he became, because the show’s all about failure. When Brock (and his VA) temporarily left to do other stuff, Hatred was a nearby military type they could use to fill the bodyguard role. So they phased out the pedo jokes.

Word of god says he gave them alcohol and was really creepy at them which isn't that much better, and we know he's been convicted of something which is never ever elaborated on. Safe to assume it was fairly bad considering how much guild shenanigans let guild peeps get away with a whole lot of law breaking and they regarded pedophilia as a hiring skill set.

That said he starts a drug regime specifically to curb pedophilic urges and he keeps it up even when it's really, really fucking with him physically and emotionally because he doesn't regard stopping the drug regime an option.

I get the feeling even the showrunners regret making him a pedophile, because they've since severely toned it down, and I think he was cured of it in S5, since there's been no mention of it in seasons 6 and 7. Because of that, I personally file it under the early 2000's edgy humor that makes many of the early episodes less enjoyable to rewatch, but isn't present in the more recent ones, like the time The Monarch almost got raped in prison and it was meant to be funny.

The writers do a bunch of self congratulating about not retconning the situation with Hatred, and still do as recently as the Go Team Venture art book. So I think it's less 'they regret it' and more 'they think they're super good at the whole writing thing for tackling difficult issues' still.

I'd also argue it's absolutely mentioned in season 6, when Hunter tries to reassign Hatred and Hatred quits instead of desk jockeying, because the only other person in need of a bodyguard was a 9 year old boy genius and Hunter didn't want to assign Hatred to that job for the obvious reasons.

The King Gorilla is a rapist jokes kept coming up until he was killed off, so I wouldn't put money on it being dropped completely.
