What is a place you want to visit but never will.

Why?

Iran seems like it would be absolutely beautiful to visit but alas, politics

There is a museum in Russia I'd like to visit but...Russia doesn't seem particularly safe.

I've been to Russia, albeit nearly 20 years ago now, and we did okay, though we came back with some interesting stories! I'd love to go again though, now I know more about the history

Russia in general for me. I've always wanted to visit Russia. But yes, not exactly safe right now.

If you're white it's pretty safe, even if you're a woman traveling solo or queer. The general consensus I've seen online is that it's a very similar experience to visiting Italy in terms of being wary of crime/corruption, but less sexual harassment than Italy or the Middle East.

The real hassle is getting the paperwork together, since iirc you have to be sponsored by someone in Russia (generally just a tourist agency) to be allowed in.

America, Mexico and most of Latin America. It just seems unsafe. And in America's case well, boring and tacky.

Personally, I feel similarly. There are tons of places in the US I'd like to visit, but I'm just so disgusted by the politics of the country right now that I have no desire to spend my money there. The US is not the only country I feel this way about, it's just the one I'm currently the most disenchanted with, because only a couple of years ago the state of US politics seemed a lot more on the fence, and now it's leaned hard in a direction I'm disgusted by. Maybe in time the country will take definitive steps to begin to right itself, but until then, I'm just to disheartened and disturbed to want to go there.

I disagree that America, as a whole, is boring and tacky, though.

I’ve been to Mexico numerous times and it’s totally fine if you stay in the tourist-y areas and don’t travel through certain areas at night.

As an American, I'll say that I think America is mostly safe if you are white. If you aren't, though, I wouldn't come anywhere near us.

India and Egypt. There are lots of places I’d like to visit, but I prefer traveling alone and I don’t know how safe it would be for a single female.

Saudi Arabia. But I've got lady parts and couldn't pass for a man to save my life, so.

China. So much that would be amazing to see. But I don't agree with their human rights records, or most of their politics so no intention of putting money in their pockets.

Egypt, Russia, lots of Middle Eastern countries, due to safety reasons.

I would love to go to Japan someday, but I know that it's not a realistic possibility due to both transportation issues (not allowed to fly due to the pressure changes possibly causing brain bleeds, and I live on the east coast of the United States) and because I'm permanently disabled (can't have more than $2000US in assets, and I'd need more than that for a trip to Japan).

I've loved the language and culture almost all my life (even with all of its faults), so going there for a visit would be dream come true. But I know it's a dream that is extremely unlikely to actually happen.

probably japan - i'd love to go but i wouldn't feel right going there without attempting to learn at least some language before i do and i just don't have the energy for that any more

Most of the middle east :c
The art! The architecture! The history! But also:
The violent misogyny! The constant threat of terrorism! The bit where Dubai pretty much runs on slave labour!

The lavender fields of Provence. Because I'm broke and poor and will almost never be able to afford it.

morocco and japan because they look beautiful.

can't because i don't have the money and i can't sit on a plane for that long.

Machu Picchu. I hear they have a lot of prolems with crowding and tourist erosion and locals not benefiting financially, and I don't want to be Part of the Problem. Plus, I think it would be less enjoyable if it were filled with people. Certainly less magical.

America - it has lots of beautiful places (the national parks! the grand canyon!) but i really really do not want to visit in this current political climate. (and i am saying this as a white woman)

China for Human Rights Issues.

Certain Middle Eastern Countries with backward laws concerning women and slave labor. Incidentially those are generally the cheap all inclusive vacations (turkey, egypt, dubai).

I would love to cross the Atlantic on a cruise ship but those are environmental nightmares so i don't.

I don't have the money but would love to visit. ;-; Peru, also.

I would love to go to Dubai or Abu Dhabi, but I just wouldn't feel safe traveling to the Middle East.

Antarctica, I don't know that there's a way to visit it without causing damage.
