Right now it seems to be everyone already hating Marie Kondo (there was an interesting bit of Discourse comparing Tumblr's reaction to her vs Tumblr's reaction to the Fab 5: Queer Eye just comes in and fixes everything *for* you and you barely have to do any effort (something that those stuck in the "i'm depressed and just want everything fixed for me without putting in effort" mindset loves), whereas Marie Kondo treats you like an adult and teaches you how to fix things yourself -- people calling her ableist or whatever)

as a messy depressed person who barely has the spoons to get out of bed, her cleaning methods help a lot of the mental declutter and I feel better taking her advice. It’s not like she expects you to have it done in a day, nor did she break into your house and burn all your books/belongings.

Marie Kondo's show comes out, and within 72 hours, you've already gone through a discourse cycle of enthusiasm, backlash, backlash to the backlash, weird racism and sexism, backlash to the weird racism and sexism, and then everything calms down within a week or so and everyone just goes on with their lives.

The biggest thing yet is that she threw out some of her sister's belongings when they were teenagers, without asking her, while her sister wasn't even home. She's stated that she knows that was wrong, and has since apologized to her, but yes, I'm one of the many going 'how do you ever think that was an okay thing to do?'

Personally I am uneasily waiting for half the Tumblr BoRhap fandom to discover Brian My is not in fact a pure angel and turn on him hard. I'm not looking forward to it because I have the impression May tries hard to be a decent human, but he is seventy and was a rock star during a pretty wild era. Sooner or later some e is going to realize that is not recipe for Tumblr Purity.

I admit I rolled my eyes at the sparking joy thing because it reminded me of a former manager who was all about following your bliss. And I frankly overreacted to some of her initial advice about books (the stuff about keeping only the pages that spark joy
... does not work well for fiction.) But friends who watch her show find it useful and her likable, so I apologize for my mean thoughts, Marie.

I don't know about problematic, but I hope she's got a healthier outlook than some of her client work she mentions in her books.
