Yes to all of these. I firmly believe that capitalism and democracy aren't actually compatible.

I was really into the Sweet Valley books. Honestly, there were so few English books I could get in the Philippines. I could get Harry Potter, Star Wars, Sweet Valley, and Babysitters club. So I obsessed over all of them.

Oh no, they can. She is a senior person. She has like 20 vacation days, 4 personal days, and 5 sick days. I heard her on the phone (she also yells everything) that she came in because she was bored. Then she went into an 'amusing' story about shaving her leg.

Animorphs

I have a feeling there might have been something else, but I definitely remember waiting for the library to get the next new Animorphs book.

Animorphs for me too, and now that you remind me I used to read the babysitter's club little sister books before that too.

No more corporate welfare. Remove Scientoligy's religious tax exemption status and tax the living shit out of them. Ban gigantic vehicles like Hummers unless you can prove that you actually need one.

Time travel is a very, very difficult trope to write. It's not as fun for the author as it is for the reader, so few writers attempt it.

I'd probably remove tax exemption status from ALL religious entities, but that's just me...

I say remove religious tax exemption in general. Or make all laws apply to religions. One or the other. You shouldn't be able to allow religions to discriminate and then give them tax exemption. That violates the first amendment and also the 5th an 14th amendments.

Season One had this great positive educational vibe. Season Two did too and then after that. It went down hill to catty and shady very quickly. It stopped being all "we support each other" to "I hate you and you and you." And I stopped caring.

I love stuff where people support each other, not rip each other to shreds. Sure, we can compete, but we shouldn't have to tear each other down for "drama" to make it interesting. That's why I won't go on fashion design competitions no matter how many people say "you should do it." Nope. Not there for the fake drama.

Harry Potter book... 3, I think, actually

It's compulsive to stay in education unless you have a part time job AND are in some form of education/training or have a traineeship/apprenticeship, just for clarity.

But yeah, I'm also in the UK and went to college AND university, definitely were not the same thing. It's further complicated by colleges offering higher education courses.

it's been a really long time since i've seen/rewatched that show but i think in that line he did say he was an aquarius? where is him being a scorpio coming from?

This is part of my problem with Harry Potter. She gave them canon birth dates, matched their wands to the Celtic tree zodiac and they didn't match THOSE personalities... and then they didn't act like their western zodiac either. (I mean, we could try the celtic tree zodiac by CONCEPTION instead, but she didn't do that, so I'm not going to bother.)

Like... Ron is a Pisces? No. Or Ash. No. Ash is LUNA all the way.
Draco is a Gemini? Absolutely not. (Lucius acts that way.) If Draco had acted like a Gemini, he'd be more INTERESTING. Draco was closer to being Hawthorn but that means he'd have to be developed more.
Harry a Leo? Don't make me laugh. Holly? Same as Leo basically and yeah, no.
Hermione is SORT of a Virgo but like the WORST parts of a Virgo. And only fandom Hermione matches up to Vine.

This one guy thinks he knows everything and is very condescending and constantly calls me by the wrong name.

Animorphs. I had a subscription where I would get three books at once.

Hello, fellow Canadian!

That's not the first one I remember, but it's sure as shit the one I remember most clearly from my youth.

NAYRT—in America, many white people (used to? idk if it’s still common and I am a white American) were taught that calling black Americans “black” was, idk, informal to the point of being slightly insulting; it’s why so many Americans default to calling black people African-American even if they’re French or British or even just from a country in Africa. Saying “blacks” rather than “black people” is very definitely insulting/rude/racist.

Becoming President of the US without first passing (without cheating) the US citizenship test given to immigrants who wish to become citizens. And since the questions vary, give the candidates (and the current asshole) some hard questions.

I started reading Pratchett’s stuff in my early teens, before it was all available in the US. When my rich uncle took my mom and I to the UK when I was 15 I don’t think I bought anything but Pratchett books.

The Wheel of Time series. Which is also the first book series I quit out of sheer frustration.

Hard to tell because I think a lot of news stories seemed major to me at the time everyone was talking about them, but I don't know if they're still remembered. That said, it was probably Dr. Seuss' death or the Hubble telescope error.
