Things You'd Like to Make

(Anonymous) 2019-03-24 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Stories you dream of writing, art you'd like to make, AMVs, games, all those things you'd love to bring into the world but for a lack of time/money/skill/essential technology

I want the money, space, and necessary experience to make stuff like this:

I would also accept just the money so I could own a couple.

I had an idea for a story about a girl who discovers she's a changeling, and sets off into fairyland to retrieve the girl she was left in place of - not so they can swap or anything, but because she (the protagonist) considers this other girl her sister, and wants to rescue her. I get tired of Changeling Fantasies that are (often unintentionally) based in the assumption that adoptive parents are inherently inferior to biological parents, and I wanted to write something where the child goes pretty much directly from "I am adopted and this is a shock" to "I am adopted and that is fine, ask me about my 'real parents' and I'll bite you".

That sounds cool! I'd read that in a heartbeat.

I really want to throw my own set of Japanese style tea cups. And a Sake set. But I haven't had the time to do a pottery wheel throwing course yet.

Reminds me that I wanna get into kintsugi. There are even kits for it on Amazon. It’s just a low priority now.

Oooh yes, that's lovely as well.

I don't know the first fucking thing about coding, but I had a cool idea for a game:
You start the game as Orpheus, entering the underworld to rescue Eurydice. To start with it's a rhythm game - you play your lyre to get past all the guards and monsters, meet figures from Greek mythology, get a nice little tour of the various parts of the Greek afterlife, and as you go along the rhythm games get harder, until you have to play to convince Hades and Persephone to let Eurydice go. Boss battle, girl got, game end right?
Wrong!
Now, you're playing as Eurydice. You're forbidden from speaking to Orpheus as you head back to the land of the living, and he's forbidden from looking back at you - but fortunately you were buried with your aulos! So as you follow him back through the underworld, you have to play, and if you drop more than a few notes, Orpheus will become concerned and turn back...

Anything

lol I am not talented in the creative arts at all, but I've wanted to be since I can remember. I come from a big family with lots of talents, and it's awlays burned in me to create but *shrug* it's just not there. I'd really like to paint, but it's been an epic failure each time I've tried.

I don't know if color mixing is your problem, but if it is, you might try this link:
https://michaelwilcoxschoolofcolour.com/product/blue-and-yellow-dont-make-green/

It's for a book called Blue and Yellow Don't Make Green. It explains why and how color mixing in paint is very counterintuitive.

Good luck!

I want to do a Hugh Laurie fan video to "No Myth" by Michael Penn, even down to certain shots I want to go with specific lines in the song, but I don't know ANYTHING about video editing.

It's really easy. You just need the videos, 4Gb RAM, a video cutting prog like avidemax or virtualdub and your video editor of choice.

I don't have a video cutting prog or editor and I don't know how to use one.

I want to paint a mural on the wall of my entryway/living room, but I'm renting the property. I'm contenting myself with buying & decorating tiny canvases and propping them up in my kitchen.

AYRT - !!! Oh! I hadn't even thought of that, but that's a brilliant idea! I could even take it with me if/when I move in the future.

Cosplay involving lots of embroidery, which I’m abysmal and slow at. Leatherwork. Making replica weapons and other props. I’d love to put a pond in my backyard some day.

So many comics. So, so, so, so many. But I have no confidence in my writting story skills. I have the characters, I kinda have the world building, but the stories are like... there.... I don't feel they are anything new or good enough to publish.

Oh no, I made myself sad. :(

Do it anyway! The best way to improve is by doing and I'm sure your story telling skills will catch up. You've got 2/3 of it down already!

A little shelf that my DVD player will fit under and then DVDs can go on top (or, alternatively, a taller shelf that the DVDs will fit under and the player can go on top), because the bookshelf the DVD player is on is plenty tall enough for both the player and DVDs, and having just the player on the shelf is a waste of space and just looks weird. I spent a good chunk of yesterday investigating options both in stores and online - monitor stands, cupboard/pantry shelves, file boxes, etc. and nothing would work. Either they were too narrow to fit the player underneath, or too short to accommodate the DVDs but too tall to accommodate both the player and the DVDs within the height of the bookshelf.
