Games thread!

The best MCU villain is Doctor Doom

Yes, I know he hasn't been in an MCU movie yet

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, who cares if they're related. It's fiction. Just ship whatever you want.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
This feels like a troll secret since liking it or disliking it is just subjective and not a right/wrong. I am annoyed that you can't discuss disliking what they did with Luke without being accused of being a Luke fanboy invested in god!power Luke or whatever.

I feel you. I've never managed to be one of those people who makes fandom friends where the friendship expands beyond just fandom and/or survives moving on to different fandoms.

*Obligatory "They aren't biologically related blah blah blah" statement*

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Everybody at the time thought the EU was canon. At least in practice. That was a really widespread assumption, and a pretty reasonable one. Everybody knew that George had the ability to overwrite anything in the EU, but that was the only limitation - the attitude was very much "this is all canon unless George specifically contradicts it". And then, obviously, it ultimately did get overwritten.

I don't really care for the EU and I also don't really care about what is and isn't canon anymore. But people who thought the EU was canon were not really being unreasonable at the time.

I don't like Loki. He was good in the first Thor movie but other than that. Meh. I honestly don't get why people think he's the best MCU villain.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Boromir because of Sean Bean's portrayal but he's not a favorite. I always feel a little weird when fans talk about relating to a character since I've never related to any character and wouldn't want to (no judgment on those who do - I know it's common).

Ugh. I've seen a lot of creepy arguments with this thread in the Umbrella Academy shippers. So creepy.

Cool art.

Nebula's much better at being the slighted sibling with an axe to grind. Almost everyone in the MCU is better at actually being intimidating. Loki's just kind of petulant and incompetent, at the end of the day.

I loved his portrayal. It made me like him more.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. I think this was my "too lazy secret" turned into a secret, or I must have agreed with someone a ton that day. Either way, thanks for turning it into an official secret!

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Luke had a ton of personality in TLJ and yeah, agreed, he was the most interesting character for me. I especially enjoyed the conflict between between him and Kylo - I would have loved to see more in regards to that specific part of the story.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, canonically two of the Umbrella characters want to bone.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree.

But also, I really like the visual of this secret. The neat fanart plus the font is very retro video game and I dig it.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmm... I'm sorry, I got... distracted... by the picture used for the secret. Mmm-hmm-hmm. <3

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I only watched the films, but I felt bad for him. He's totally human, well-intentioned, and fucks up anyway. And in the end, redeems himself. Definitely one of the more interesting characters.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. And people like to argue that it's not really incest because they're not biologically related/they were adopted.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm starting to read EU books. TFA got me more into Star Wars. I was turned off the sequel trilogy after TLJ but I'm enjoying the books. But I haven't really gone into post ROTJ stuff except the Thrawn Trilogy. I like the worldbuilding better in the new movies.

Starting reading it now, I'm happy the story group is now trying to keep one canon since the EU authors I've read clearly had their own biases about certain characters. Still, there are a lot of fun things in the EU. Certainly lots of cherry-picking that they could do to bring some characters or storylines into canon.

I think that's a strength of the MCU. They have decades of stories to see what worked and what didn't. It's nice to be able to take the good stuff and leave the bad. Or fix things like Chewie's death.

What do you do?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Curious. What's your job? Is it a career or just what's paying the bills right now?
