Putting something in canon is actually different than saying there is no way on earth to make characters gay in canon in ever

(Anonymous) 2019-04-25 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
OP
I meant mostly that making characters gay/trans/whatever as a side point, (aka something not originally intended/shown, via the HP books/movies and the Overwatch game) since I had no idea about the Overwatch comics at the time I made this comment, is something I figured both J.K. and Overwatch had in common.
I'm not sure what you mean by this exactly, and I know I'm very good at explaining myself... but mostly I figured they both added 'controversial' identities as a means to garner attention and keep people from losing interest in their respective franchises.

Nah. See, Overwatch is a CURRENT canon. It is still being created. Harry Potter (the originals) was a completed canon that JKR just adds random shit to. There is a huge difference between the two.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-25 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
also it wasn't "announced" anyone was gay, it was shown, in the canon material. the situation isn't similar in the slightest this is so dumb

(Anonymous) 2019-04-25 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Not OP or anything, but I'm having trouble seeing the "huge difference". Both are canon by Word of God. But if there's no actual gay content or reference to being gay in the narrative of the game itself, it's literally the same situation.

OP
Technically HP is too, considering all the movies about Grindelwald. So long as a creator is still creating content, no matter how feeble that content might be, it's still current. Just saying.

ah, that could be true. But it is an interesting comparison.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-24 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I recognize this from a comment secret lol.

Wasn't true then, and still isn't true now. OP has no idea what they're talking about.

Here ya go, look up all the lore and backstory. There's a lot. :)

Yeah, I was thinking.....don't they have comics? I KNOW I saw a pretty neat short with D.Va about not working so hard.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-24 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
And there's like voice lines and unique actions in the games, right? They apparently HAVE personalities, even if the game itself doesn't have a playable plot.

Yeah, the comment was about fandoms you weren't in but have strong opinions for. I didn't make the secret though, only the comment.
I'll still say the characters are mostly barebones IMO, but I do get that I had no idea what I was talking about.

There are... Canon comics tho...

(Anonymous) 2019-04-25 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
OP
Yup, the secret is made from a comment I made in 'fadoms you have strong opinions about, but know nothing about', so I didn't know that at the time.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-25 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Claiming that "this ongoing canon has announced one of the characters is gay" is the same as "this completed series has announced one of the characters was gay, but they will never ever be shown as gay in any additional material", is... quite the take.
And the strange idea that Overwatch is like... one whole, completed thing? Rather than an ongoing and ever expanding canon*? Very odd. Makes me wonder if anon actually knows anything about Overwatch other than the headlines.

*except if you're Zenyatta

(Anonymous) 2019-04-25 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
I laughed out loud at your addendum. Poor, poor Zenny.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-25 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
OP

Nope. This secret was made from a comment I made in the 'strong opinions about fandoms you know nothing about' thread.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-25 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Lore you you Tracer, you go Tracer!

and none for Gretchen Zenyatta

(Anonymous) 2019-04-25 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
I think Overwatch is one TV series away of becoming the next Transformers.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-25 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
It seems like games and streamers are already as important to The Youths as TV used to be so maybe it already is.

Except actually isn't Overwatch already sort of past its peak?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-25 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Overwatch has a garbage fandom and garbage canon, more news at 11.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-25 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Ah yes, calling people garbage because they like things you don't like. Truly the hottest of hot takes.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-25 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
I still don’t understand overwatch hype and why it attracted a horde of people acting like it has some rich deep lore when there is barely anything there.
