capitalism can't be fixed, and I don't think we should work on working *within* it so much as getting rid of it.

Yup. I agree. Capitalism is inherently bad. It is not salvageable.

So you don't want free markets and all the consumer choice that provides.

Do you think there's another method that, adjusted or not, can provide consumer choice while also not using 1/3rd of a person's day and paying them chump change?

IDK, but so far capitalism is the only system that lifts the largest number of people out of abject poverty and provides them with some disposable income along with a variety of products and conveniences to spend it on, so I think abolishing it is going to be a tough sell. Not that it's not a noble cause. I wish you luck with it.

I consider myself a socialist democrat, but I don't think everything boils down to class and money. Everything boils down to power dynamics, but race, gender, etc. are just as important as class.

Work ethic is important. Yes, shitty managers suck, exploitative corporations suck, but you can't not do your job and expect to keep it. You're not sticking it to the man, you're sticking it to someone who has to clean up the mess you made by half-assing or worse.

I think refugees who committed crimes, especially violent crimes, should be deported to their country of origin with little to no tolerance.

Extremism is shitty no matter the political leaning.

A politician with shitty views doesn't get less shitty just because she's female.

I think deporting refugees for serious crimes (rape, murder, etc) is reasonable, but stuff like crossing the border illegally, stealing something cheap, jaywalking, etc shouldn’t be grounds for deportation.

Those are mostly considered misdemeanors anyway.

Crossing the border illegally is an illegal action.

AYRT—but unlike rape or murder or assault, it’s not hurting anyone. Also, since the chump took office, his administration has been stopping would-be refugees before they could cross the border at legal checkpoints to ask for asylum, so deporting them for crossing the border illegally when they’re (illegally) denied the chance to cross at border checkpoints is a catch-22 designed to make claiming asylum impossible.

Just because something is legal doesn’t make it morally right; the Holocaust was legal, and the US turned away plenty of people trying to flee the slaughter.

What do you mean by "extremism"?

Re: How do your political beliefs differ from the party you most closely assiociate with?

Anything where your political opinion is the cause for violent action.

I think refugees who committed crimes, especially violent crimes, should be deported to their country of origin with little to no tolerance.

But why?

Re: How do your political beliefs differ from the party you most closely assiociate with?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-06 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Because a country doesn't need any additional violent criminals on top of those it already has.

Why not?

NAYRT but if a crime would earn someone life in prison or a death sentence, it’s probably cheaper to deport them.

Ideally lean Green or Democratic Socialist. I'll push the button on a plate of tater tots if it ran Democrat in the United States, because I'm a realist.
