Not exactly. A sudden increase in testosterone does (typically, because human biology is complicated) result in a significantly higher sex drive, and can result in shifting priority from emotion to sex. The effects aren't permanent, however - once hormone levels settle out and the person acclimates to the higher baseline testosterone level, the sex drive usually revs back down (though it may remain higher than the previous pre-testosterone jump level) and prioritization can reconfigure because the brain and body are no longer blaring alarm klaxons at the hormonal changes.

there is a marked decrease in hardcore kink/smut fic, and I absolutely think it's because people are keeping those fics to themselves or their small group of trusted friends

I'm not someone who jumps around to a lot of fandoms at a time; I've only really spent much time (SO. MUCH. TIME.) in two fandoms over the past several years. But I can say that in those two fandoms, this hasn't been my experience. The smut in those fandoms has been varied, and plenty kinky. In fact, the most straight-laced, non-kinky fandom I've ever been in, by far, was a fandom that saw its heyday in the late 90s. (I was in it in the late 00s, and it was still straight-laced as fuck then.) However, I acknowledge that you may well be entirely right about other fandoms I have no experience with. Some fandoms definitely have a stronger puritanical streak than others, that much is clear.

It's still conspiracy theory mentality. It's the exact same thought process that leads credulous morons (as opposed to the deliberate assholes using conspiracy to mobilize said credulous morons) to believing the Sandy Hook Massacre is a hoax, or that 9/11 truthers are a legit. "Other side -> Can't trust other side -> They're trying to trick me -> This person is on my side so they must be right" is the mental channel through which all conspiracy theories flow, and one type isn't any more sensible than any other.

It is written by Tony Kushner. It is going to be amazing.

these squawking idiots that think anything other than married missionary sex is abuse.

Is this a tumblr thing? I just- I haven't ever seen anything close to this level of purity wank in the comments on AO3, and I tend to read the comments sections very frequently. This isn't my passive-aggressive way of saying this never happened to you. I just genuinely am curious about this.

oh I totally have been kinkshamed for writing one night stand fic. I wrote a pwp where one half of fandom's juggernaut had mindblowing but emotionless one-off sex with a different person (in a world where he was not in some kind of relationship with the other half of the juggernaut) and I got so much flak for it that I had to report a couple of people to the abuse team. fans of the juggernaut pairing wanted to flay me for implying that Character would have sex with anyone else, let alone sex for fun. this was in the past calendar year, no less.

there's a lot of kudos on it but they're all anonymous, go fig.

Anon, I am not a doctor or a trans person but I do know a number of AFAB folks who take hormones and everything (mood, aggression, sex drive) seemed to even out after a bit on it. You'll be okay! Good luck!

I looked it up on IMDB. half the characters don't have names this time around.

ryan reynolds was working consistently even before deadpool made it big, so...

(Anonymous) 2019-05-07 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Used to be tumblr, has definitely moved over to twitter in the grand exodus. I'm being a little hyperbolic, but honestly not that much; it's less in the way of comments on fic and more in the spreading of bad or misleading information and leading attacks on the authors/artists themselves. If you've ever seen authors/artists lock down their twitters and turn off DMs and such, that's generally why.

Reminder that with the Walt Disney Company's purchase of Fox, they control 39% of the U.S. box office in 2019. That's more than the next top 3 studios COMBINED: Universal (15.5%), Warner Bros. (14.7%), and Sony/Columbia (5.9%).

(Anonymous) 2019-05-07 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
But also, there a lot of people and groups you genuinely shouldn't trust. And it can be quite difficult to work those things out withoit falling into a paranoid, conspiratorial modality.

I'm not in the Kpop fandom anymore but I was when the likes of Big Bang and 5 member DBSK were huge. It was a joke among the circles I frequented about how Kpop operated. All these years later it's horrifying (but sadly not surprising) to know how true our "jokes" were.
I even had a dislike of Seungri. He always came off as a buttkisser and I always thought he contributed the least to Big Bang yet YG kept him around.

Cool, let's take the IMDB that anyone can edit over the award winning Steve Spielberg (Best Director x 2) and Tony Kushner (Pulitzer Prize and Academy winner).

Nah, they could have an endless supply of money and they'd still end up with the same shit sandwich.

I don't have access to Steven Spielberg or Tony Kushner and I seriously doubt you do.
