I'm off work today, woohoo! Right now, I'm spending a quiet afternoon in my den with the back door open, sipping iced tea and looking at the internet while a little male wren sings in the sun outside. It's quite relaxing.

Work. Home now. Trying not to move because my kitty is asleep at the foot of my bed, and I don't want to wake her. Had leftover spaghetti for dinner.

I went to the vet, where they kept me waiting for over an hour because they "forgot" about me. I have no idea how that happened since I was sitting right across from the reception area. They also failed to refill my dog's prescription, even though I called them last week about it and it only takes a day or two to refill.

I mulched a bunch of potted plants and some plants in the ground with compost and then cleaned out the chicken coop and dumped most of the poop and feathers on the old heap and a couple buckets on a new compost pile by my kitchen door, added some store bought mulch to top off the potted plants, and then had a long shower with lots of scrubbing because ew, poop dust everywhere.

Now I’m cooking rosemary garlic potatoes and crispy chickpeas, and I’ll probably roast some broccoli when the potatoes are almost done.

I’m reading Roses in Amber, a Beauty and the Beast retelling. I just got to the part where the Beauty (Amber, in this case) has agreed to stay with the Beast and is being shown around the castle.

Don’t get me wrong, I love BatB retellings, but I can really see the resemblance to Robin McKinley’s Beauty and Rose Daughter in this one. I get that Disney ripped off Beauty for the 1991 film, but I’m an awkward bookworm who loves gardening and I’m still going “can’t Beauty be enthralled by rooms full of instruments that play themselves instead of a library?” I mean, yes, original BatB has a library, but also a music room and a menagerie and rooms full of fancy clothing. Okay, making her a musician pushes her story toward Phantom of the Opera, but maybe she really wants to be a dressmaker. Idk.

Worked, stopped at the store super quick for a couple things, and now I'm home. Probably should head to bed soon since I have to get up early tomorrow.

Went to work. Started feeling sad and grouchy for no reasdon this evening. It's getting late, but I think I may go to the gym for some endorphins.

Something happened today that really creeped me out. A man who was, I guess, a "fandom friend" - strictly online - called my work office today. I think we chatted on AIM after meeting on some message board when I was in high school. Possibly junior high school. I haven't spoken to him since and I'm thirty now.

I don't recall telling him my real name. I know he'd seen cosplay pics of me, it's not impossible that he tracked me down. Probably five years ago he tried to add me on Facebook, but I ignored the request - I always had a no-online-friends policy. If he tried to message me on my old LJ, I wouldn't know, I haven't used it in a decade.

Anyway, he called my office today, and my secretary picked up. Apparently he said he was "my friend". I was busy when informed about the call and didn't recall the person's name, so I told my secretary to take a message or have him e-mail me. When he e-mailed, I remembered.

This guy was always a few years older than me, but nice enough at the time. I'm sure he's just a well-meaining socially awkward weirdo or something. In his e-mail, he said he wanted to "reconnect" and said he had a wife and kid now. But I am so, so creeped out by this. And the thought that someone from my mid-teens who undoubtedly has cosplay pics of me is contacting my coworkers... I've felt squeamish since.

Should I respond to his e-mail? Say I don't know him and he's got the wrong person? Bitch him out and tell him to never contact me again?

If you're that creeped out and have no intention of reconnecting, why not just pretend he got the wrong person?

Personally I don't think I'd respond at all, because I'm creeped out by this, too. It's exceedingly WTF-ish that someone you were only online friends with (and not that close to there anyway either) calls your workplace after over a decade, knew your name and where to find you...yeah, that's odd to say the least.

Oh hell no, that's creepy as shit. Don't email them. Or maybe email them and say they got the wrong person?

Okay, you just won the lifetime creep sweepstakes (creepstakes?) and I’m sorry, that’s kind of terrifying. I’d say either don’t respond, or respond with “sorry, you must have the wrong person.”

What is everyone doing this weekend?

I am watching my nephew tonight because the best gift I can give me sister for Mother's Day is one less kid. Other than that, I will be enjoying the one day of sun before more rain comes next week.
