Text: I found the Book Seven explanation of how Ravenclaws get into their common room (answer a question instead of giving a password) to be monumentally stupid.

It's not a bad idea in theory, but the questions seemed to be more philosophical than factual (i.e. "Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?"), and you can be book smart but not good with existential questions. Plus, what if you're a first year muggleborn? You could be stuck out there a long time.

When I first started reading the books, I figured I was a Ravenclaw. But thanks in part to this bit of worldbuilding (and due to growing up), I'm starting to think I may be a Hufflepuff instead.

[Image: A publicity still for Dragon Age 4, showing artwork of Solas from Inquisition holding his hand out to a monstrous black wolf]

Text: While I enjoyed Origins' story, the gameplay wasn't my cup of tea, and it sounds like all the subsequent games are even more frustrating in that regard. So I'm overall ambivalent about DA4.

However, if they announce that one of the characters in the game (especially as a companion) is him?

I will be all over that.

(Admittedly, I'm mostly in it for the voice. But he is an intriguing character who never got any closure in Origins, so...)

This seems like a weird choice to make, as a secret, in the sense that it's almost inevitably self-defeating

anyway, yeah, it sucks when popular things are Not Your Scene but you can't stop hearing about them. I really do sympathize.

I thought she was on a pillow, but then realized those were her boobs. Also, goofy guys in porn are fun.

I think the fact that it's philosophical rather than factual is a good thing, because it means that instead of there being one correct answer and if you don't know it you're out of look, the important thing is being able to analyze and grapple with the question asked and come up with some kind of a response. There's more flexibility, you know? And I think that's a much more useful kind of intelligence, and a more useful way to train it, than to just ask for recall of facts.

I agree that it sucks if you can't answer a question and get locked out, but Hogwarts seems like it's fine with that in general - it's not just a Ravenclaw problem, people can also get locked out of Gryffindor if they forget the password.

I like goofy and dumb comedic porn but I can't stand things with such bizarre unrealistic fetishistic anatomy

But taste is taste

The final has begun! Who are your faves? Who are your least favorites?

Everything and anything ESC in this thread.

Right! "Where do vanished objects go?"

"Into nonbeing, that is to say, everything." or "Into the ether" would probably both be right.

Also lol @ the fact that McGonagall can just walk into Ravenclaw's common room if she wanted to because she's that badass.

I really liked Sweden and Slovenia's songs. I wish I knew the names; I'm watching a stream and the Icelandic locals keep talking over the English speakers in a language I don't understand.

Why wasn't BBC America airing it? They did last year...

I thought that Iceland were the only ones in fetish gear, but Malta had latex/PVC and harnesses too.

Truly terrifying titties

(Anonymous) 2019-05-18 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Amen. And toss Endgame in there for me too.

It's one thing to see/hear all about this in fandom spaces, but on my facebook, google searches, and youtube for just a few? I feel like I can't go anywhere online without running into conversations parsing the latest episode/character motivation or making future predictions.

All I've seen is that LOGO isn't broadcasting it. Maybe not enough viewers? I don't know.

Sucks to have commentary one doesn't understand. :(

Unfortunately for you OP I think the state of the final series is only going to cause more talk and chatter about it.

Godspeed to you managing to avoid it all, I don't envy you.

The one thing I'm hoping for is that every GOT secret that was submitted immediately gets proven incredibly, hilariously ironic and wrong, like what happened last week

It's just funny to know that someone like Hermione could have gone into Ravenclaw quarters anytime she wanted, unless she would have been rejected for being too literal or something.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-18 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I hear you. This and Endgame are going to dominate the secrets for a while, I think.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-18 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't remember the Hufflepuff section from Pottermore totally but don't they just, like, not have any restrictions on their common room in the first place? Lol

I would definitely want to be a Hufflepuff no matter how much the Hat wanted to make me a Ravenclaw
