I remember that orange VHS. Great movie.

How patriarchy hurts us all, my friend. No one bats an eye at that behavior bc women are taught that men always want sex and men are taught that not wanting sex all the time is weird, and that rejection of women's sexual advances is "gay". Similar to cases where a female teacher assaults a male student, there are nearly always comments like "Lucky kid, where were all the teachers like that when I was in school, har har!" Double standards are harmful for everyone.

Jesus Christ, that sounds awful.

Please keep going! I am in serious need to read a whole fic about this now!

Weeeeell... to be fair, a lot of children cartoons have a shitton of adult jokes that they got past the sensors, half to take a jab at dumb censoring and half because it's hilarious.

I knew that was coming (I wonder if Prince did too)

Re: Trailers vs. Actual Movie

This is weird because it's old, but for some reason the only thing that's coming to mind is Without A Paddle. The trailer made it look stupid as hell, but I thought it was actually pretty good. Not a masterpiece or anything, but much better than I expected based on the trailer.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
That's a valuable lesson for us all.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Caroline Dries wrote the pilot. She also wrote for Smallville, Melrose Place, and Vampire Diaries (where she was also an EP).

Isn't it CW, who loaded Supergirl with cheap girl-power lines, forgettable pop-songs, bad romantic chemistry, and some of the worst plot devices on television?

Indeed.

Yeah Deadpool's the one I was tthinking of. All the promo stuff was way more OTT than the actual movie. (Which is good, bc I loved the movie and I wouldn't have if it was full tilt hyper dudebro jokes the whole time.)

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
But there was so much more wrong with the movie than the nipples - that's just what everyone, forgive the pun, latched onto.

There was just way too much going on, the tone was uneven as hell (Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze seemed like he was in completely different movie from everyone else), the character dynamics were just odd, and a good amount of the lines felt like they were trying for catch phrases. It had a lot of issues.

It's a double whammy. It's "men want sex all the time" AND "women are weak and harmless and can't hurt anybody"

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
You know what? I didn't like Endgame all that much but now that you remind me of the bat nipples I realize it could have been far worse. Thanks, OP! <3

I thought the trailer for Alita was fucking horrible, but the movie was pretty fun.

The cinematic trailer for Assassin's Creed: Revelations is fucking awesome. The game didn't really live up to it.

SA: Supergirl manages to be stupid and fun, while Legends is stupid and frequently less fun, Flash is just painfully earnest and stupid,

... and Arrow, I had absolutely no idea that they could make Oliver Queen less fun than Bruce Wayne's wangst. But they did it. It's an achievement, I guess.

Telling people what they can and cannot ship. A couple of days ago I stumbled upon a tumblr post that pretty much said "PSA: don't ship X/Y (forgot the names) because they are cousins and straight." As if that has ever stopped anyone from shipping whatever they want to ship.

Also telling people what to write in their fics. I'm cool with suggestions, requests or questions like "is xyz going to happen?" but not "You better not write abc!" or "You should've done dcf instead!"

I do adore the commentators that threaten to quit reading the fic if something they don't like happens. They always make me laugh and think "Bye, Felicia!"

Brave

The trailer made it look like some mom and daughter team up adventure which I was TOTALLY down for.

The movie was... utter trash.

As a writer who does that, I mostly get annoyed when people assume my fics are abandoned. They aren't! Sure, I've been writing one of them since 2007, and I update it maybe once a year, but darnit, it WILL get finished eventually and if I want to write a million other things around that, I'm totally allowed.

XD Of course, I also don't get mad when people don't review or read my fic-du-jour either. Comments are nice, but I get that the way I update is frustrating, and that's cool.

But I do wish people would stop assuming my fics are abandoned LOL.

I found out one of the guys I work with who watches Game of Thrones somehow had no idea all this time that Jaime and Cersei were twins, or even related

HOW ?? I don't understand how this is possible

Aw man, I read the rest of the strip and now I seem to be leaking a little. Thanks, Anna!

Ha, Colossal. I thought it was going to be goofy because of the premise, but then it's so full of upsetting and serious themes.
