Instead of being halfway to Ireland I’m stuck in Jersey! Thanks vibrating engine.

Eh.

Are we drawing a distinction between reviews on someplace like Goodreads - which really is dedicated to potential readers - and comments on fic, that will go directly to the author?

Because I'm fine with negative words in the first, but shit, when I put something up on AO3 I'd rather not have some stranger giving me an itemised list of everything they didn't like about my hobby project, which they read for free.

I loved revelations! D:

I feel that the standard etiquette of a gift exchange, where you will be writing a story for someone else, even if it's likely not your gifter, counts as "paying for it". Everybody involved is taking on a commitment, yeah?

Wow. I'll admit that I had forgotten they were twins, but I did know they were siblings.

I have been there to witness 14 year old fangirls hand voice actors explicit yaoi doujinshi to sign and spend the whole time talking about how hot it is that "their" character and this other male character are getting it on. More than once. Mind you, American dub voice actors for Japanese series.

French did help develop the series!

Given some of the scenery in this manga I'm actually wary of this being done in live action.

Oh, I did too! But compared to AC1 or the other Ezio games, it had a lot of problems.

It was a buggy mess, and the combat and free-running was a major step down from ACB (mostly I think due to trying to introduce too many conflicting systems on a minimal control scheme). And while I loved some elements of the story, there were others that didn't live up to some of the earlier games. It was really clear they were trying to make AC more commercial or more Hollywood or something, with some of the writing choices and how some things were presented. The soundtrack as well is super generic Hollywoodish, and as much as I love it, it lacks the depth and the unique vibe that Jesper Kyd's OSTs had.

Sounds like they like your stuff, so that's a good step. Maybe start by asking questions about their fics/characterizations?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Gosh, what if there had been iron-nipples?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
i don't disagree with 'androgynous' but really... it's clearly obvious she's a woman in that pic too

I AM that kind of writer, which is why I generally only post one-shots. The one multi-chapter fic I've posted recently was had a completed first draft before I posted chapter one.

I'd like to think I'll get back to some of the older fics, someday ... but probably not.

(And I have no issue with people not deciding to read my stuff because of that.)

I wrote and posted a short character piece about a secondary character. I got a few kudos, and one rather condescending comment, saying the only way I'd get a "real audience" was if I wrote the juggernaut pairing (which didn't even include the character I'd written about.)

Re: Breaches of fandom etiquette

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh. I used to be part of a fandom with one juggernaut paring (A/B) and a secondary one that was more of a "pair the spares" situation (C/D). Once I wrote a short A/B/C PWP and got an angry comment berating me for daring to break up C/D. My fic didn't make the slightest mention of character D or a C/D relationship.

Wait, I've always thought her name was Edina (but not pronounced like the Minnesota suburb).

Smallville

Melrose place

Vampire Diaries...

Not to be a jerk to the people who like those shows but... yeah I can see it.

yup.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
Not to me it isn't. We don't all see faces and gauge gender the same. I've seen more than one male youtube beauty influencer who looks more feminine that Rose does in that pic.

Looks like somebody got autocorrected. Anon?

The character's names were Edina (Eddie) and Patsy.

Sorry, I'm just over here laughing at the phrase "beauty influencer" ...
