Miss Lemon from the Poirot series.

That isn't something I can know until the opportunity/necessity is there, bud.

This. Objectively, they're all very different movies, they just have similar underlying themes like "friendship is good," etc. like you said, which is what you're going to find in ALL kid-targeted media regardless of the medium. I mean, I look back on the books/cartoons/comic books I loved as a kid and... yeah, they all had those themes too.

Kids also generally don't care about repetition when they enjoy something. I used to babysit for a kid who wanted to watch the same movie every day for a month straight.

god, I hated that movie too! I was dragged to it by a friend of a friend and I walked out.

I don't like Snow White either but I'm not the target audience.

I didn't like it as a kid. I liked the dwarfs okay, but that was about it. I didn't like Snow White or the prince, the magic mirror freaked me out, as did the hag that the evil queen turned into.

SW is much too bland and sappy to make a good heroine and the prince was just dull. The dwarves were kind of fun but that was it.

Not stopping you. But people are allowed to complain about your complaining.

They can totally recognize when things are the same, but a lot of times, they don't care and find comfort in the familiar.

There are books that I've read to my 2-year-old hundreds of times, enough so she has memorized them and can "read" them to me. But she still requests that I read them again. We went to the library today, and we've already read one of the new books six times and another three times.

And having taught preschool for almost 20 years, she is not alone in that. There were many books that would get requested over and over. And the kids would constantly reenact favorite stories through their play. (I was so sick of Frozen!)

My sister does the same thing, I can't for the life of me understand it.

The one thing I do remember is the perm and washing hair knowledge - that was her own knowledge applied in a logical way. That was the only point that showed true competence though.

And see, that part bothered me. I get what they were trying to do, but she decides that's the one point to aggressively pursue? How convenient, to unravel an entire case over a single slip of the tongue. I mean, I'm sure that happens IRL sometimes, but "you forgot how perms work so you obviously killed your father!" really felt like a leap.

The plot was, but it was carried along by constant ad-lib quipping from all the major characters and some great physical comedy with Iron Man and his robots.

I liked it as a Taika Waititi movie, but a lot of it wasn't really congruent with the earlier two Thor movies. To me this is great, I would love to see more out-there takes on big shared universes! But I understand why people who don't get that kind of humour wouldn't like it.

Stephanie Beatriz said that they both auditioned for the show (they are RL friends) and when Melissa Fumero was cast, she was pleased for her but assumed she wouldn't get hired, since they were always going for the one Hispanic role in any cast.

"To possibly get raped" "because she talked too much"

Hmm. Interesting Watsonian approach to that part.

not real sure what behaviorism has to do with my being offended by women being abused in movies....

She idealised him because he died too soon for her to come to her senses? Another interesting Watsonian viewing.

GoT/ASoiaF. Both show and books.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-30 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
for fanfic, try copy-pasting the entire fic into a google doc and then use the word-changer tool to change the names of the notp characters into the names of the characters you wish the fic was about.

I think I could cause someone brief but excruciating pain, and then kill them. But I don't think I could give the order for someone else to do it. If I was going to do it and look myself in the eye afterwards, I'd have to do it myself.

I also don't think I could slowly torture someone. Or maybe it's just that I can't see wanting to.

I guess it depends on personal taste. Just because something has lighter moments, comedy, and quips doesn't mean a movie isn't in earnest to me.

Lilo and Stitch had great physical comedy and tongue-in-cheek scenes but the story and the treatment of that story was earnest.

This is me.

I also don't appreciate how it craps on the first two and as a result it encourages a lot of fans to do the same. Some of us liked Thor and his original supporting cast.
