I still love Buffy and Angel until Cordelia's end. But Firefly is un-fucking-watchable. It was bad in the early 2000s, and it's just plain stomach-turning now.

I sort of agree? And I actually like flowery writing most of the time, but it seems like a lot of writers don't have the touch for it, and it often seems very ersatz - like it's based on a very narrow received idea of what Victorian style should be like.

I don't know, I rewatched Serenity a week or two ago and it's very watchable once you get take into account that it's half a season of TV episodes mercilessly compressed into 5 to 10 minute sequences
