Fandom petitions

I guess I agree with the article. Who starts these things anyway? Is it tumblr-era babyfans who've grown up with less of a barrier between creators and fans? People who just want to vent? Personally I cringe when I see hear about one because it seems so out of touch. What about you guys? Has anyone ever signed something like that?

(Anonymous) 2019-06-13 12:55 am (UTC)(link)I try to think about it more as people just wanting to know they're not alone in feeling disappointed about how things went with a story they care deeply about. Ostensibly it's about trying to accomplish something, but the fact that these petitions keep springing up even though they never accomplish anything makes me think that, more than anything, they're just an outlet for people to vent their impotent frustrations, and feel that they're in good company. It's still cringey, IMO, but I kind of understand it, too.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-13 01:13 am (UTC)(link)Fandom petitions have been a thing for a long time. They continue to be a thing because sometimes they work, because they put a concrete number to the fans who are disappointed or angry.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-13 01:26 am (UTC)(link)I can think of several, but they weren't wah wah bring my fave back type requests. More like shows of interest en masse and showing companies a market was there.
For example, a poll/petition to bring back old school Runescape worked, and now the old MMO is more popular than the new version. A petition to bring back "classic" World of Warcraft worked and that's set to launch this year.
