I totally agree. Surely it doesn't *have* to be as cut and dried as that?! O.o

This sort of thing totally does my head in.. Weirdly, I've only come across it in the past 18 months (just lucky, I guess. :¬}), and I've only ever come across it in one of my fandoms. This is one where even the *writers* played with the traditional pairing, and at once the "true" fans kicked off alarming. For them, anyone who sees and loves anything other than the "one true pairing" is too often called seven kinds of fuckwit just for daring to like different pairings. Come to think of it, for some fans in said fandom, liking/obsessing/adoring *anyone* other than the title character means there's something wrong with you. That's probably why most of his fans fucked off and won't have anything to do with the rest of us.

143 The need of so many het shippers to have their ships be canon seriously turns me off to being in the het side of fandoms. The wars, and the way the canon people think the non-canon people should DIAF, or assume that if you like a het ship you think it will happen in canon--that shipping isn't about personal preference but some sort of canon prediction--really pisses me off. Who needs that shit? (That said, Heroes seems like a fandom where the slash shippers have epic battles and who needs that either?)

I am in the fandom (unfortunately), trying to hold my own as a Wilson!lover against all the bashing, and I have no idea why they hate him. In one sense, I do know their reasons (I should; I've argued against them enough), but don't understand them in the least and certainly not well enough to explain them. LOL.

So this is a really long-winded way of saying that I have no idea. :/ It sucks to be kind of alienated from a fandom for liking one of the characters. XD
