yeah, Cloud and Aerith had something going on. She helped to bring him out of his shell, to inspire him. But she died before they could ever form a deep, long-term relationship. Tifa, I think, could form that sort of relationship with Cloud. It certainly doesn't happen in any of the stories, but the possibility is certainly left open for a future relationship. It's entirely possible for Cloud to love two different women in the course of his life. Would anybody expect a widow or widower to remain single for the rest of their life because someone they were deeply in love with died? Hell no. Don't impose those limitations upon fictional characters either.
