(no subject)

Lots of people have been bringing this up: what do you think about having the secret makers put the fandom in the image itself, rather than the name-the-fandom thread? Like a note at the bottom of the image (eta: or a note in the comment itself) that says:

fandom: Dr. Who, or fandom: House, or fandom: fanfiction/fanart/rp, or fandom: Pokemon/Twilight Crossover with a Bella the Bellsprout and her sparkly vampire virgin pikachu boyfriend

I'd go into effect starting with the next subs post (so everything submitted this week is fine, don't worry). The first comment would still be there for repeats and stuff like that.

[Poll #1272473]

What if the fandom is so small, spilling it would reveal the maker's identity?
If they didn't want to name the fandom, they probably wouldn't name characters or anything, right? So if it were like "I ship this one character with this other one, but no one else does and I feel alone, but this fandom is so small everyone would know it's me // fandom: character shipping"? That could work.

Does the fandom tag have to be on the image itself?
On second thought, probably not. You could just include it in the comment you put the link in, and that would work, too!

I think it'd be better to introduce it gradually; so that people can get into the swing of including the fandom in either the secret itself or in the entry when they submit the secret before it becomes a necessity. Making it compulsory to include the fandom right off the bat is going to result in a lot of Not! Fandom'd.

I like the idea and I was one of those who asked for it in the 'suggestions' thread. I just don't get the whole 'small fandoms'! outcry. Just HOW small are we talking about that everyone knows who you are?
Also secrets are about unpopular opinions - if they know who you are then you clearly have stated the opinion already - therefore not a secret.

I don't know, I find that making secrets and including a name on the bottom (on other comms) does not limit my liberty to say what I want to say without being found out. I really do feel safe that people will never know or at least will never be sure it's me, so I don't see how anyone could be so scared they can be found out.

somebody on the last page mentioned [livejournal.com profile] jrocksecret - they have a system where you put the name of the fandom underneath the image and in [livejournal.com profile] kpopsecrets secret makers can add an additional comment when they submit which gets posted with their secret.

the name-the-fandom thread only works if people actively contribute to it and not everybody bothers with it. but having people post the name of the fandom when they submit a secret (or from a set group of categories if they think listing the fandom will reveal who they are or whatever) isn't even a lot of effort to put in.

Oh, I LOVE not having the fandom in there. It encourages dialogue (of the "okay, what fandom is this?" kind, but it's fun). It makes those who "get it" feel a spark of belonging. And SO MANY OF THE POSTS HAVE "IF YOU KNOW WHAT FANDOM THIS IS I LOVE YOU" MESSAGES ON THEM. I LOVE THAT.

Please don't make this a rule.

Hm . . . what if the secret used images from a ton of different fandoms? Like, 20 different television shows . . . would all of them have to be labeled?

Anyway, if such a thing does get implemented, I'd rather have the fandom(s) written out under the image, rather than be on the image itself.

I like the idea. I don't know if it's because I'm always too lazy to sift through hundreds of comments (I always happen to see these posts when like 300 comments are posted... not meant to be an excuse though, lol).

But I agree that maybe making it optional (like, for those that want to label their fandoms can, and for those that don't want to, then it's okay, too?) or something.

What about the maker putting the fandom in the comment so it can be placed underneath the image instead of them having to find space in their images to name the fandom?

Also, this should be optional.

I agree with the 'small fandoms' problem, mostly due to the fact that a great deal of fandoms or pairings I'm in have only two or three (including myself) active participants, plus some where I am the only one writing.

And I like guessing fandoms, as well.

But I suspect most fandoms are larger than my own and most people are more apathetic to the guessing-fandoms thing, so I'm not too bothered by this either way.
