Secrets You Can't Be Bothered to Make

Zhao/Zuko was one of my most favorite ships when I was big into the Avatar fandom...the more fucked up, the better. I'm not proud

Everyone is recommending My Hero Academia but I refuse to watch any anime with a Percy character in it (a Master Roshi type). I know that is very limiting and kind of silly given the genre.

pervy* not Percy

No, that's fair. Mineta is the fucking worst.

Good Omens: I think the "they're gay and banging" and "they're enby ace" camps should kiss and make up rather than do this passive-aggressive snark thing at each other.

I'm not even in the fandom and I totally agree.

Srsly. This "they're gay and ace" camper is bored and would like to make some s'mores.

I'm ace myself but I ship them as gay and banging. But I also entirely support ace interpretations as well. So yes, I agree.

In a similar Avatar vein: I never got Zutara.

It probably doesn't help that I heard about it being the fandom ship before I watched the show, but even when I got into the show I... didn't get it. There was nothing in the show that even vaguely hinted to it ever being a thing, and Katara spent most of the show aggressively hating Zuko because of how he'd treated Aang.

Fyi I don't ship Kataang, really didn't care one way or another, but to me it seemed like the Zutara shippers saw something that just wasn't there and got angry at the show for not doing something it was never going to.

And it's not that I don't have hero/villain ships, I do, but this was one I never saw because it didn't fit either character. Tbh I thought Zuko/Aang made far more sense as the hero/villain ship given the actual canon.

I agree with all of this.

Bonus: I think a lot of Zutara's appeal came from fans using Katara as a self-insert and not wanting to admit it.

I agree. I shipped Zuko/Mai and Sokka/Suki and Azula/Ty Lee. I sort of ship Aang/Katara as an end goal. As in, they are too young on the show, but I'm totally fine with them eventually marrying. Don't care one way or another. But Zutara I don't like at all.

DA

I never got Zuko/Mai, all I saw was Zuko desperately trying to fill his role as a 'Prince' by adopting the first relationship presented to him, or rather what Azula presented to him. Obviously Mai had a crush, but Zuko was never seen to reciprocate it. Time and time again it shows them at each others throats, because their personalities do not match. That their relationship is hostile at the very best. Even ignoring the radical backstory shift on Mai's account, the series never shows them legitimately comfortable with one another.
Even at 'Boiling Rock', Zuko literally locks her up, with little to no regret, just in case she might rat them out. She loves him, no doubt, but it's very far reach for me to think he did little more than settle by being with her, trying to do what he expects a Fire Lord should do- and if not just for some babies ever after shite.

(I got caught up with phrasing this as a secret, so hopefully this isn't as hostile as I think it sounds;;)

Not hostile at all. I don't agree with you, personally. I always thought Zuko seemed the most relaxed and comfortable and able to be himself when he was with Mai (I mean, apart from Iroh, anyway). He didn't have to hide himself from her. He didn't have to be a proper prince. He could show her his whole self, even the angry side.

It was that stupid scene where they were locked in the Earth Kingdoms cult dungeon, or something. Honestly those episodes were some of the worst in the entire series.
I plain and simply hate Katara. Her relationship with Zuko literally exists with her blaming him for everything bad that happened in her life, that he's responsible for all crimes of the fire nation. But most of all, him 'lying' to her in the earth prison, which he didn't even do.
What makes it worse is that in their little episode together, she is so fucking selfish that she doesn't even consider to bring Sokka with her... y'know her /brother/ who, I don't know might actually care about going after the murder of /their/ mother! Zuko has to babysit her the entire time, his only line being 'maybe cold blooded murder isn't a good idea'? Ugh... I'll stop now.

Wow. I don't agree with your take at all. I think she was protecting Sokka. If things went bad, Sokka would be safe. That's why she didn't bring him along. And of course she blames Zuko. He represents the Fire Nation for her. He's the one who is closest to her age and is there. If Azula were there, I would guess she'd blame Azula more. But Zuko is there, so Zuko gets the blame. And Zuko was a part of it until recently. Zuko was a villain until recently. He did some terrible things. So she isn't wrong to doubt him.

I write mostly f/f but I'm a woman who's never been in a relationship with a woman. (I want to be, but I figured that out a little late in life to do anything about it.) I realize I'm far from being the only one, but I keep worrying people will find out and think badly of me.

I mean, unless you're dead (and if you are, props on your fantastic internet connection and typing skills), it's never too late.

And hey! Sometimes being dead isn't too late either!

I have stumbled back into a fandom for a show I loved that ended in 2001. However, the characters I love are not the main focus of the show, and no one left in fandom even mentions them. I wish there was a way to find the people I used to hang out with.

I liked Zhao/Zuko too. And Zhao/Iroh.

I would gladly give up modern conveniences in exchange for getting to live in a fantasy setting with magic. Even though I'm pretty much attached to my computer, the fantasy world is my ideal.

I like all the Star Ware movies for different reasons. But my favorite visuals are the prequel visuals. The dialogue does have problems, and some of the plotting is iffy (though not as much as many people think). But the prequels are just beautiful from start to finish.

I've only recently got into Mercedes Lackey and Valdemar, and I really wish there was a fandom. Mostly because I'm villain obsessing as usual and shipping hero/villain, and I want to share my interest and find fics.

I am terrified I am the reason an author hasn't updated their fic in a long while. I realize I'm being self-centred and paranoid, but for the life of me I can't help but believe it might have to do with my late responses to their fic. The fic is amazing, and has had very frequent updates, generally some time after I left a review. I used to refresh the page over a dozen times a day to see if they posted something new, because it was the greatest thing I've read in a long time, and for such a rare paring as well.
I got into a new fandom recently that has taken up a lot of my time. So I've been later and later to check in for new updates. Their latest update I read late, and didn't compose a review for until much later still. Again I know I'm being paranoid, but I can't help it, because I have had bad experiences in the past. But even as I tell myself this, I can't help but feel my latest over enthusiastic review may have but the dust for everyone, reader and writer alike.
