I have VERY frequently stayed up far far far too late to keep up with threads here. And it's not even like I know half the fandoms people are discussing. I just really love the general comments and the chitchat of the community.

One of my long-time favourite fan fic writers has been fixated on this one character from her favourite franchise for... a while. Only one in four of the works she's posted in the last year *haven't* featured this guy.
And I like this character okay, but he's honestly pretty boring! His personality as a whole is just bland! And she usually does interesting things with him, but there's only so far you can take that!
I'm not going to tell her what she should be writing, but holy shit I wish she'd get into a new fandom. :/

(Also on the same person - I feel like her stories lately have been doing a lot of telling over showing? Like, "and then the characters did this, and they did that, and it was super cool," rather than actually writing the scene where they do the things? IDK, it just worries me)

I love it when my favourite writers stick to the same fandom, I've always had bad luck in that they switch to a new thing I dislike. I get where you're coming from though, there's really only so much someone can do with one thing.
I'd mention the telling over showing thing in a comment maybe? If it's negatively affecting the writing then it shouldn't hurt to mention it.

Sometimes I eat something that doesn't agree with me and puke on purpose because I'm nauseous and it feels better afterward. I'm annoyed that I have to sneak around to do it because if I don't, people think I have an eating disorder and body image issues when all I have is an irritated stomach.

That makes sense? I mean, your body is unhappy because of the contents of your stomach, so you empty your stomach. That's perfectly logical?
I'd only worry if you seemed to be doing it, like, more than once a month or something. Then it would be like, how the heck are you finding all this bad food??

Oh god, tell me about it.

I have this weird issue where I can't burp. I've just never been able to. It's a thing. So after I eat a meal, I inevitably get a gassy stomach, but the only way I can feel better is by forcing myself to gag (not even throw up, just gag). But I don't feel comfortable with making myself gag at work, or in a public bathroom, because I don't want people assuming I'm bulimic. So I end up being uncomfortable a lot.

I get that - better out than in does apply sometimes.

Just so you're being careful not to hurt your esophagus and teeth with the motion and the acid. Always brush after, etc.

Do you think there's an underlying cause to your nausea? Is it random food or a set of specific things? Like - always greasy, or always high sugar or something?

I really dislike this one BNF in my fandom. Because she set the tone for how so many people see my OTP. Even though her fics have no basis in canon. I personally think she just writes the characters wrong. And a lot of other people have taken their cues from her rather than from canon. And when people are new to the fandom and ask for recommendations, nine times out of ten people will list this person first.

Also, they seem to have some really unhealthy ideas about gay sex. I don't think this person has written a single fic where anything is consensual for anyone. Every time someone is penetrating someone else, it is always at least somewhat against the will of the penetrated person, or at least they are resisting a little. Maybe that's this person's kink. But it strikes me as a little homophobic.

It annoys me when the comments on a secret are all asking for clarification or disagreeing with the fundamental point of the secret, and OP doesn't show up to explain shit. Why make a post if you don't want to talk to anyone about it?

Normally when someone wrings their hands and wails that people reading non-con/dub-con fanfic won't understand the difference between consensual sex and rape, I roll my eyes.
But I've been getting into this one fandom lately, and there is so much rape tagged as 'mild dub-con'! So much! I just want to grab these writers by the shoulders and shake them and say, "When one party is chained to the bed by strangers and their clothes are being cut off them with a big knife and they are legitimately concerned they might get stabbed with aforesaid big knife, THE CONSENT IS NOT DUBIOUS! IT IS NON-EXISTENT!"
I don't have any problem with dub-con! I don't have any problem with non-con! But for fuckssake, can people learn the difference? It's like they're afraid of tagging their fic as non-con, but not afraid of WRITING the stuff!

There was a clip from an episode of Anthony Bourdain’s show that made online rounds a few years back. Bourdain told a precocious tween girl that she works harder than the people on his show and she cracked jokes about how it must be so hard for him to sit on a plane half the time and eat delicious food the rest of it (he took it well, I thought). I ran across the clip again and wondered if she ever felt weird about it now.

I think that a lot of people who complain about lack of diversity in fandom are doing it for woke points and don't really give a shit about inclusiveness. And theres a subset of those people who enjoy shitting on stuff other people enjoy in the name of being woke, but who're just doing it because they're assholes.

I have frequently made comments about my self esteem/self hate issues on here. I feel bad because I know I'm annoying someone but, it honestly helps to write a thought that's overwhelming me, blaring from all corners inside my mind and taking over. Sometimes when I see it I realize how over-dramatic it really comes off and I feel a little better.

Friendly reminder, use DA, NAYRT, and all the alternatives, when responding anon. I'm guilty of it myself from time to time, but there has been a few misunderstandings lately. (some time ago I even had someone use AYRT to a response to my comment, it was not me;;) It just makes things easier for everyone.

All my secrets have something in common that I haven't noticed from other people's secrets, and I'm (very lowkey) paranoid that other people will notice and... what? Realise the person who made Secret #1 also made Secret #7? So what?

So I'm subscribed to one of those comms where people submit questions to fandom characters, and the characters answer them.

I'm seeing an increase in two areas... submitters who ask questions that blatantly crap on canon (but responders going with it like it's canon), and responders allowing the same question to like a dozen people at a time (except this doesn't happen once in a while, but frequently).

I used to think the latter was due to a lack of submissions but it doesn't seem to be. Idk, part of me just wants to go "where the hell is the quality control?" while the other is saying "You want quality control, start your own comm." Which I'm not going to do due to lack of time, so it's pointless to bitch in the first place.

I guess it bugs me because previous responders were more selective about the submissions, and even if they got a weird letter, they'd reply to it in the context of canon, more "What are you talking about?" vs "Oh yeah, that X event that didn't even happen or is being completely misrepresented by this letter, it was so interesting (in the context of your letter and not canon)!" Yeah yeah, I'm spoiled and a snob and old school and get off my lawn, etc.

I roll my eyes at twitter revelations that a person or character is pan, because it always kicks off a bunch of invented wank about bi and trans people and wank about who can cite that person as rep.

For example, trying to pin the bi/pan debate on Jadzia Dax is kind of silly, since from the start a big reveal about the Trill is that human hangups about sexuality don't necessarily apply to them.

And what the fuck is up with everyone tinhatting Taylor Swift's sexuality these days?
