Tangentially, I am so sorry that 3 was your first Clock Tower, lmao. They do all have some variation on a "panic" reaction, but 3's was handled the worst, making the whole experience kind of clunky and frustrating. The original SNES one and the first PSX one both handled panic as a thing that only happens if you're actively being attacked, so you won't freak out just from being pursued-- so if you're still at all interested in the series, check those out for sure. :D
