lol wow yeah, I had no idea who that art was supposed to be

(Anonymous) 2019-08-31 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not fond of Adam Driver's face, but he's a decent actor (just not good enough, or not given good enough material, to actually make me like the character).

(Anonymous) 2019-08-31 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think you are supposed to like him.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-31 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
tell that to *checks notes* all of Star Wars fandom

(Anonymous) 2019-08-31 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt - "like" doesn't necessarily mean approving of the character in a moral sense, it often means that people find the character interesting and/or compelling. And the audience is definitely supposed to find Kylo Ren interesting compelling, otherwise the franchise wouldn't bother to give him so much screen time.

Also, if you think the Star Wars franchise doesn't deliberately create villains you're supposed empathize with on some level, you're not paying attention. I'm not even a fan and I know that.

""like" doesn't necessarily mean approving of the character in a moral sense,..."

Of course if we're talking about reasonable people that's true. Unfortunately, this is fandom, and "like" most frequently means "this character is a secret sweetie and just needs some good fantasy loving to be reformed."

Even in the normal, not bugfuck crazy fandom sense, saying the one "likes" Kylo Ren, carries the implication that he's just a dude one would like to have coffee with, and not the kind of toxic personality that would require saintly powers of psychological stability to tolerate. Generally we say we "like" the story instead. One can love the story's development of a complex villain without saying that they're "likable."

I'm sorry, but if he doesn't look at least a little bit like Teddy the Oriental Shorthair, he's not Kylo Ren.

I can’t believe I both get this reference AND agree with it.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-31 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
If Kylo honked like Teddy I'd watch all of the SW movies.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-31 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"What's wrong, Kylo?"

honk!

"What do you want?"

honk! honk!

"Do you want the lightsaber?"

hoonk!

"Okay, Kylo!"

honk! honk! honk! honk!

Same. Not so much about Kylo Ren specifically, although I do get where you're coming from with him. But just in general, I agree. I was a big Johnlock shipper for a couple of years, and I gotta admit, I loved when fanartists made Sherlock and John a little more conventionally attractive.

It was just nice to see them looking a way I personally found appealing. As long as I could still recognize who they were supposed to be. Looking at that fanart in your secret, I knew instantly it was Kylo Ren, so no problem there.

same except replace "generically pretty" with "female". female woman-type genderswap. can't get enough of it. i'm ashamed

I'm also fond of those, at least in art. I've never seen female Kylo Ren and now I feel a deep need to. Not sure Google will help though.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-31 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
oh man, opposite! i don't generally seek out fan art of him, but adam's driver's unique face would be the best part. at a glance i'd assume that was a fanartist used to drawing DCU or other samefaced black-haired boys.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-31 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here. There is a character like this in one of my fandoms (attractive but not conventionally so) and I can't stand when fanartists prettify him. He's attractive BECAUSE of his unique features, stop taking them away!

(Anonymous) 2019-09-01 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Mte. One has to draw Kylo Ren looking like Adam Driver because his face is so much of the appeal.

I've never found Driver attractive until he played Kylo. His face usually doesn't do it for me. But with the long hair, and then especially with his build in TLJ, he looks fine. Not as fine as Hux, but still fine. Actually, physically Poe would probably be most my type. Except I really don't like Poe so I can't get on board with being into him.

Adam Driver as Kylo Ren looks, in a very vague way, like I looked when I was younger. Probably no one seeing a picture would think so, especially since I'm not a guy, but that's what I felt when he took off his mask in the first movie. So I ended up liking Kylo Ren. (In the "interesting character" sense, not the sweet cinnamon roll or banging sense.)

Ditto. Something about the way they styled Kylo made me completely change my mind about finding the actor attractive.

That looks like Dylan O'Brien in American Assassin.

Interesting! It's definitely meant to be Kylo Ren, though.

(Anonymous) 2019-09-01 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I've never watched a Star Wars movie in my life and I could tell exactly who that was without reading the secret first.

(Anonymous) 2019-09-01 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Gotta love "generic dark-haired broody boy" fanart. Is it Kylo, Sherlock, Snape, Loki or Bucky? You decide!

(Anonymous) 2019-09-01 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I gotta say, this art makes him look a whole lot better.
