Hey, I don't hate the epilogue because it was heteronormative! I thought it was ridiculously twee, and that it stylistically didn't fit with the series as it had become. That it was heteronormative was a bit disappointing, but I had more or less expected it. Just because I thought Harry/Ginny was the most boring, formulaic couple imaginable doesn't mean I couldn't see that it would happen since the second book.

(I actually love the books; I'm just not happy with certain details.)

This has been my favorite book since I read it when I was ten. I always cry. Sometimes I cry just thinking about it.

The thing that pissed me off the most about the movie is that it took an amazingly written story about an inward battle - a girl fighting against herself - to an outward one. It made the story less about her overcoming herself simply for herself, and her true love, and made it into overcoming herself to beat the evil guy.

Ugh.

But oh man. Favorite book ever.

I'm sorta in the same boat as you. One thing you can do is get a good friend to watch it first, and then watch it with you so they can tell you when the really gory parts are coming up. That way you can cover your eyes in time. I do that job for my friends all the time. <3

And also, it's not so much the heteronormativity that bugged me so much as it was everyone ending up with their childhood sweethearts... it does seem to be the norm in the wizarding world, which doesnt even make sense considering they all live 150-odd years.

OMG, Ella Enchanted? Awwww, man, now I want to reread that. It's been yeeeaaaaaarrrsssss and all I can remember is that it taught me the phrase "Pardon my French" and that the Fairy Godmother was not very bright and that I enjoyed the book very, very much. My making me realize that being hyperactive, saying what you think, and being innocent is a-okay.

Also, he got me into martial arts, which has been an excellent way to control the impulsiveness/high energy that comes with ADHD.

Indeed! FFVIII was WAY better than FFVII in my opinion. The game had it all--- awesome plot, good magic/fight system (Junction RULES!), and all the FF traits I have come to love.
