I don't think they're implying it's a bad thing to be from the States or the south; just that it's a bit brain-braking and disillusioning because they were sure he was English. And portrayal of southerners and portrayal of the English in popular culture really couldn't be further apart.

But it doesn’t matter what fandom you’re in – there are people who will look at it as nothing more than entertainment, and there are people who will look deeper. You just have to be patient and search for them. If you really want to discuss with them, you’ll wait till you find them. PS: There’s no cure for fandom’s insanity, and griping just pisses people off.

Oh man, that's just about the saddest--possibly even most pathetic, if that's not too harsh--thing I've heard in a long while. For serious, man? For serious? You gave up playing an instrument that you seriously enjoyed because so famous guy made a crack about it?

Look, there is no such thing as a "cool" instrument. It all comes down to the players. Ukeleles, by definition, are the lamest lame things ever. I've seen them played in a way that rocked the house. The same goes for banjos and accordians...oh man, what I've seen done with accordians... People must've mentioned Jethro Tull to you by now.

I suppose a guitar would be a "cool" instrument. I love mine, I'll admit. But everyone and their brother at one point or another attempts the guitar. That doesn't make it cool, that just makes it mainstream.

Look, you enjoy playing the flute, play the freaking flute--and rock it, alright. Yeesh, I can't believe anyone would let celebrity-style peer pressure dissuade them from playing music. That's terrible.

And a strong character is not necessarily an interesting character, I am more interested in female characters being given depth then on how strong they are (emotionally or physically). I want more interesting and diverse characters, I don't need them to be able to kick ass or be emotionally stable.
