While being evicted is unfortunate, I think it is in fact reasonable to suggest that if Amina Mucciolo had enough money to turn the apartment that she does not own into a magical fairy unicorn wonderland maybe she should have made sure she had enough money leftover to actually pay the rent first. And no, it is not 'poor shaming' to suggest that maybe she should have foregone some of those aesthetic stuffed animals and color-coded ponies and cute bags in order to pay her damn rent instead.

Huh, I thought she was being evicted because the landlord wanted to turn the whole building into themed apartments like hers and had jacked up the rent to make certain she would leave. Being evicted sucks, but being evicted because she spent money she knew she’d need for rent is less awful than suddenly finding out her landlord had raised her rent with the express purpose of getting rid of her and profiting off the design work she’d done.

Nope. Apparently the complex was temporarily renting out one of the units in the complex to make an AirBnB Lisa Frank thing for a couple nights and she claims that the landlord then decided to terminate her lease in order to use her apartment to do the same. However she later admitted that she's been late on multiple rent payments (and that the landlord 'worked with them' previously, as if someone's patience can't run out). Internet sleuths have also found an eviction order for her from 2017 that her husband claims was a 'weird legal error' even though he has no proof of that. All signs indicate that she's been flaky on her rent for quite a while and her landlord likely finally got sick of it.

I had to look up who this was and realized I had seen that apartment on Apartment Therapy quite some time ago, so I don't think the rainbow wonderland is a new thing that sucked up her rent money just now. Also, I recall she was living with a partner at the time of the AP profile, so maybe if that relationship ended, the loss of a second income is the source of her problem?

She's currently married so she does have a second income. She's admitted to being late on her rent multiple times and her landlord took her to court to evict her in 2017 when she first started doing the rainbow princess remodel, a case she lost because she never showed up to defend herself. With the time it can take to evict tenants in California it's actually not out of the realm of possibility that this is that eviction finally coming due (her husband claims on Twitter that the eviction never happened and is a 'weird legal error' but has offered no proof of that).

It's like they think popularity will pay their bills for them. If enough people over the internet will cry for you, your landlord has no choice but to let you stay...

I don’t know who this person is and have only seen one mention of her outside this post, but popularity kind of does pay the bills for some people, whether they’re traditional celebrities or internet influencers. A lot of people fundraise for way less serious crap than paying the rent based on their fame, no matter how minor, or how little they “deserve” it.

ayrt
honestly, I don't know who they are either. mostly I just find it ridiculous that they didn't bother to cover base number one, meaning you kinda need a home to work from it. to use your success to sell and profit off of is one thing, but doing it so badly you can't afford your own rent is another.
it takes more than one late payment to get evicted, you got to miss more than a few boxes to manage that.
