South Park is so old, I was in second grade when one of my classmates submitted SP fanfiction for their homework.* You can’t “ban minors” when the minors who first liked it are adults who still watch it, FFS.

* All I remember is that Kenny got stepped on by a rampaging giant chicken.

That sounds hilariously awesome I have to say.

I didn't know they did this about SP, given it's fucking South Park we're talking about here.

Somehow, Saddam Hussein playing with realistic sex toys is not what I have in mind when I think "show for kids."

Since when is South Park even a kids show? I mean, obviously kids watch it, but that doesn't mean it's for them and it's certainly sparked controversy over the years for being a cartoon with content not considered suitable for kids. Also, considering how long it's been around, I'm honestly surprised it's still got a child fan base.

The yaoi with creek brought in surprising amount of kids.

DA
That was like ten years after the best friends episode though, so I disagree.
If slash was what was pulling children in, Style was huge since the beginning, Creek being official probably meant less to those types than bringing in the PC Principal did. (probably)

As in, it brought in the kind of people who go whenever they can find canon and pure gay ships. Most of these kids admittedly hate the show, but love the fluffy ship creek gives them so they want to policy the fandom to cater to them.

Ever since creek becoming canon, style and the rest of the ships, even kyman plays a background role.

Huh. That's a weird draw they chose from then... South Park is essentially about weird shit happening all the time, in particular when Craig mentions exactly this along with hating the quad (Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman) when they have the whole thing with the hamsters.
Creek happened after the PC principal ordeal, and if they had even the slightest clue (aka watched a single episode) they would know SP is the last place to find good fluffy feels. Especially when it comes to some random side paring.

Every single character except for Randy has played a background role when it comes to the last couple of seasons... Creek was pretty much just a cinder on the fire when it came to them trying to get canceled after Mr. Garrison became president.

What I remember about South Park best is their customized parental/disclaimer advisory saying just that. Kid's watched it for sure, but it was never meant for them.

I imagine the teens who watch it now feel like it's their own special club where they get to feel jaded, and rebellious and rule breaking. And remembering that there are adults who also watch, who were the original fans, have kids only slightly younger than the teens, freaks them out.

What a world- kids coming into a space that may not be entirely meant for them, and demanding the adults who were there first (for years) leave because it's inappropriate.

Isn't it implied that both Cartman and Kenny have been sexually abused by adults on the show anyway?

(Anonymous) 2019-11-04 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Ike, too. There was a whole episode about it satirizing how abuse is seen on male children.

i don't understand what these fandom brats have against aging up characters who are under age. wouldn't it be worse to NOT age them up? i don't get it. i say just ignore their dumb bullshit and ship aged-up characters.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-03 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's based on the idea that if you fantasize about a minor being of age, it means you were creeping on them before that. Which could be creepy in reality, but this is fiction. These people we're all writing about do.not.exist. And in this specific case, they're not even child *actors*, they're cartoons voiced by adults. The writers could wake up tomorrow and be like "let's make everyone 18".

If the show moved in real time, they'd all be in their thirties with kids now anyway.

This is the show where Jimmy fucked a prostitute, Cartman gave a handjob to a celebrity and sucked a homeless man's dick and attempted to get Butters and and Kyle to suck his dick.
