It's a conspiracy

Every time I'm actually running on the early side in the morning, there's always some kind of crazy traffic accident or other disaster that makes me late.

The traffic the past couple days here in San Antonio has been horrible. It has been in the 30s, and San Antonians clearly don't know how to handle colder than normal weather and aren't willing to change their driving to match. So many accidents.

Like anon wondering about winter in westeros, what have you wanted an explanation for?

The Kennedy assassination.

A lot of the worldbuilding and rules in Harry Potter. It was interesting on the surface, but then when I thought about it a lot didn't really make sense. A lot of fanfic authors actually did a better job of making the world work.

I know it's normally supposed to be fluffy romance and all, but I have so many questions about various soulmate scenarios and fics so rarely answer any of them. Like the one where people can't see colors until they meet their soulmate -- how do you teach kids the names of colors if the majority of any given class can't see them? Are clothes made mostly of black and white fabric or are they really garish so those who can't see colors can still make out differences? What about traffic lights, how do those work? Is all TV in black and white? What about paintings?

Or the ones where people have their soulmate's name tattooed on them. Surely there's some kind of online database where people can match with their soulmates, right? Or like Soulmate Facebook, you can't tell me in the internet age that people would just be wandering around hoping to stumble on someone with the right name rather than just doing a google search. If it's just first names, then do people give their kids progressively weirder names trying to find one that's unique so their soulmate can find them? Would smushing together first names and surnames become popular? I can't be the only one who wonders these things.

Why Kutner killed himself on House. I know why the actor had to be written off the show in a hurry but not even having speculation as to why it happened was lousy storytelling. (Not that that was rare in the final seasons of House.)

Had a bit of a relapse thanks to my super busy Monday and Tuesday. So I took the day off and just rested. Read some top ten lists on Listverse. Watched Doctor Strange. Took a nap. Played with my kitty.

I slept 19 hours (waking up twice and having to get up to pee) and it was beautiful. I haven’t slept more than, like, 4 hours a day for the past million years. JUST yesterday I was thinking about the time in college when I miraculously slept for 22 hours and wishing it would happen again. Well, wish pretty much granted.

Now I wish for a year or so off from life obligations and having to think about anything, but not with some bastard genie twist like “congrats, you’re in a coma”.

Slept late, left some of the groceries I bought in the store so had to go back for them, and realized I have no clue how to fill a pastry bag.

Completely blew a presentation at work despite preparing last week and part of yesterday... sigh...

Worked up the nerve to take the pain meds the clinic prescribed for my foot inflammation.

Contemplating going to bed early, but I won't rest well either way.

It's cold and wet outside and I wish I could spend the miserable winter somewhere warm and sunny, by the sea. :(

My roommate just called to say she chased a raccoon out of the chicken run and she said there were only 9 hens. I have 10 living in the coop. Or possibly, I had ten. I had eleven last week until a raccoon got in and killed and ate one. I’m terrified I lost another; I raised them from babies and they’re pets, not food. Since the time change, I’ve gotten home two hours after dark on my earliest workdays. I tried to patch up the run over the weekend, but clearly I didn’t do a good enough job. I guess I’ll just leave everyone shut in the run all day tomorrow. It’ll suck, but not as badly as being eaten.

I didn't dye my hair like I thought I would so now I must do it tomorrow so it can look nice for the party on Saturday.

Not great. I'm feeling all irritable and moody due to a bunch of different things that are going on and I'm hiding in my room so I don't take it out on anybody. I hope tomorrow's better.

Not a terrible day overall but sometimes I need to remember that I don't have to read things on the internet when I know they will upset me. (For example, YouTube comments.)

Nice. I wound up going to a friend's birthday party when I didn't even know today was his birthday.

My mom was in a car accident this morning, so...not great. Fortunately no one was hurt, but the car may be totaled and mom is understandably really depressed about the whole thing. She was on her way to the hospital because her friend was having a medical procedure and wanted her to be there, but she was in such a rush to leave that she forgot to take her morning meds and had a small seizure on the way, which led to her rear-ending someone. Now she doesn't want to drive anymore and I still haven't gotten my license back (I couldn't get it renewed in 2014 due to frequent dizzy spells that several years' worth of expensive doctor's visits and painful and/or otherwise unpleasant tests finally proved to be panic attacks) so I can't drive for her yet. I was going to go take the test tomorrow after my appointment with my psychiatrist, but it's looking like that's not going to happen. Of course, if the car turns out to be unsalvageable, then I guess it won't matter quite as much, as we'll just be back to bumming rides from friends and family like we were last year before we all scraped up enough money to buy this car.

I just wish my family and I could catch a break once in a while.
