Historical eras you love...

... whether it's for original fiction or AUs, what period of history do you love reading/watching?

Anything from the Russian Tzarist era. Ancient Greece/Rome. Actually really anything ancient. I'm really interested in how cultures developed in different parts of the world. Early European history (anything pre-middle ages really). Civil rights era. Late 1700s/early 1800s.

I'll watch historical anything for the costume and setting, but for fiction reading I'd rather have contemporary or future (though I generally don't read fanfic AUs). ~ I'll read historical non-fiction or biography, though.

Edwardian/Victorian, the sixties/seventies (particularly anything about Vietnam and the space race), the 1500s (Lady Jane Grey and such), ancient Egypt and Rome, pre 'discovery' Americas.

I mean, basically anything from the Crusader era up through to the 1940s. I've a lot of little specialty times and places of interest in that thousand odd years, but I'll take much of anything.

I'm not as fond of ancient world stories, and for some reason I hate Roman AUs in most fandoms. Possibly because a lot of the ones I've come across are shallow slave AUs, I think.

I also don't have a lot of interest in the world wars in and of themselves. Merge them with genres, dieselpunk or weird war or the like, then yes, but straight historical fiction not so much.

30 Years War. 1830s through the First World War, mostly, except the 1850s and 1860s are a bit dull. Europe between the Wars. Asian history from... I don't know, rise of Islam to about 17th century in general.

My most favorite time period is anywhere between 1400 to early 1900. Renaissance, Baroque, Jacksonian, Antebellum, Victorian, and Edwardian especially.

Ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt.

Prehistoric, especially Neanderthal/Early Human.

Han China, but there's a serious lack of it once you finish Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Incas, Middle Ages around the 12th century and UK in the 18th century.

What's got you excited?
I just watched both season of 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' and *really* enjoyed it. It was so, so, so fun, i was literally 'lol'ing.

I also just watched the Norwegian Netflix offering of 'Beforeigners' - WOW that is cool! I hope they make a second season for sure.

I finally got onto this streaming thing when my cable offered HBO, and I'm finding What We Do in the Shadows to be an utter delight.

My issue with Maisel is that I'm just fundamentally uninterested in watching shows about failing or complicated marriages? I love all the other parts of the show, though. Just, some of the drama bits are a turnoff.

Main thing I'm still keeping up with is Evil, which is OK. Has a good balance of fun creepy stuff and goofy dumb stuff to laugh at. Great cast.

I was rewaching Whose Line is it Anyway. That's on the computer that is in the shop, though. So the past couple days I started a Doctor Who rewatch from the beginning of New Who. When I get my old computer back, I'm also excited to give His Dark Materials a try. I like fantasy, and I did enjoy the first book. I miss good fantasy tv.

I hope they find it obviously, but while I like the message of it, I'm not too torn up about it. Like it's just a golden toilet, it's not specially made or anything. If it had been a painting or sculpture I would be more shook up, but meh.

I looked someone slightly famous up on Facebook (I didn’t have to go plumbing around for them, I just put in their name and there they were) and sent them a message basically saying “hi, sorry if this is weird, we don’t know each other, but I really want to tell you I think you’re awesome, have a nice day, bye” and I don’t think they ever actually saw it because my messenger app never showed their picture next to the message to show it was read, just a check mark to show it was sent...but about 2 weeks later they deleted their account and I have a sinking feeling it’s because they did see my message and thought it was creepy. (Or, better scenario that would still suck: they saw it and realized how easy they were to find, and deleted not because I bothered them but because there are some really toxic people in the fandom who they wanted to make sure didn’t find them the same way.)

I feel stupid/embarrassed for possibly being a weirdo even though I should be old enough to function in fandom, and a teensy bit sad because they didn’t reply even though I knew they probably wouldn’t, because I really like them.
