I've never watched a single minute of this show, but at this point I have to wonder - when will it end? Is it just going to keep going until we have Harry and Meghan's wedding re-enacted on TV, less than a decade after it actually happened? Because that would be - forgive me, 'The Crown' fans - weird as fuck.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's weird as fuck in general to make a TV show about people who are still alive.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
ayrt - oh yeah, hard same, but it is what it is

(Anonymous) 2020-01-03 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
It's better to make a series about someone still alive, so at least then they can manage how much slander and lies you make up about their lives. It's always worse to make a profit just because the dead can't say anything.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-03 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it always worse, though? What about a situation like Bohemian Rhapsody where the living band members had too much involvement, so the one dead guy ended up with the best, most nuanced portrayal while everyone else revised their own histories to the detriment of the film?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-03 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
The first two episodes made me realize how much I would prefer a series about George VI

(Anonymous) 2020-01-03 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it will last that long. I can see it going to the death of
Diana but that's about it.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-03 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
There already was a Harry and Meghan TV movie

The Crown's plan from the start is six seasons, the cast switching out every two. So we've had the young queen, we're moving on to the middle-aged queen, and the last seasons will be the older queen and probably the new young royals. Where it'll end? I honestly think the show runners are hoping QE2 will die before it's over so they can have a closed story of her life. Fuck them if they are thinking that way though.

Hrmmmmmm. I don't really think so. I mean, Charles *is/was* an attractive man, if a little goofy-looking.
I do agree that he's being played *very* well, and you do really feel sympathetic and on Charles' side. So far.

Attractive? He looks like a muppet come to life. I just looked at a bunch of pictures of him to make sure and the only ones in which he looks even mildly attractive to me were a couple in which he had a beard.

Yeah, agreed, Charles when young was deffo above average. The ears were a distraction.

Hee. A bit, yes, but not a deal-breaker.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-03 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
That's a way flattering angle. He's got a very weak chin and then there's the ears...

Like I said, to each their own.

I mean, Charles *is/was* an attractive man, if a little goofy-looking.

And has/had a very sexy voice!

He's got that, what is it, Received Pronunciation? Is that what it's called? that is certainly very interesting. :D

(Anonymous) 2020-01-03 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's hard to find actors who look as inbred as the royal family. Should have tried to cast Cucumberbatch to give the right effect.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-03 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty much all my sympathy went out the window when I found out that Dumbo never tried to make his marriage work at all with Diana. He keep fucking Horseface on the side and was quite open about it to Diana after they got married.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-03 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
It's been nearly a quarter century since she died and people still act like she was a naive innocent angel and he was an evil devil. It was a political marriage and they met a handful of times before they got married. Do I condone infidelity? No. But I also don't condone pressuring someone to get married to a person they barely know because she is a "suitable virgin" type and so "real queen" material.

I think the Crown is notably calculated in order to make him and the Royal Family seem more sympathetic, and people are definitely getting manipulated by that. But it's also at least a change of pace compared to the last 25-30 years of acting like Diana was a goddess among women who was so horribly, horribly wronged, rather than allowing her to be a flawed person with agency (and less than ideal behavior) of her own.

(I also find your comments on looks amusing, because people have also fooled themselves into believing that Diana was hot stuff when none of them are worth writing home about.)

(Anonymous) 2020-01-03 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing ayrt said suggested they believed Diana was an innocent angel, though. Charles' family was very wrong to pressure him into the marriage. That doesn't condone his infidelity, however.
