Presumably for the same reason why you don't take up ballet, learn a new language, learn parkour, volunteer coaching soccer for underprivileged youth, learn how to embroider, or 3D print augmented reality art installations. I don't know you so maybe you do some of these things, but I bet you don't do all of them, because human time is finite.

And that's okay. Not everyone needs to like the same things, I promise!

Why would I want to find a videogame version of my tabletop RPG if I...like my tabletop RPG? And like my gaming group?

If I were to take up a new hobby, I would devote less time to my current hobbies, and I a) enjoy my current hobbies, and b) don't have enough time for them as it is. Having ways to take up my time is not a priority for me as I have a full-time job.

I think you're misunderstanding me here. I'm not trying to convince you to change your mind, nor am I trying to get you to replace your current hobbies with playing videogames, that was never in the picture to begin with. I'm just saying that videogames are just as much a hobby as anything else you listed, that the effort put into them can be just as minimal as watching TV, or as mind testing as your Tabletop RPG.
It's just that there is a lot of variation in videogames that a lot of people seem to overlook. Back when Windows 98 was around, it came with games like Chips Challenge, and Mine Sweeper. Obviously those are videogames, playing solitaire on your phone is also playing a videogame.
I don't care what you do in your spare time, it's just odd how you dismissed the first comment to respond to you saying that videogames are hobbies too.

I think you really want me to be a pearl-clutching anti-gamer, if such a thing even exists, and I’m not. I personally don’t want to take on a new time suck that requires building skills that I don’t currently possess.

You completely breezed by the anon who mentioned that learning the basics of videogames is no different than working to improve any other interest/hobby.
Your response to that was an unprompted list of your own hobbies, all which essentially encapsulated everything you said was the reason you couldn't get into videogames in the first place. That you had enough hobbies to suit your interest, and didn't have the time to waste on something new..
Obviously now I can better see where you're coming from, it just seemed rather shady when I first read it. My response was to try to relate your interests to certain videogames because I didn't actually know where you were coming from.

It was mostly my confusion at your original response, and how I disagree with the notion that all videogames need to be worked at, which is probably how I made a mess of things.

The anon who replied to you made a valid point, but rather than acknowledge that, or explain that you just don't have the time to try something new, you went off on a tangent about your own hobbies, with the implication that you wouldn't be interested in try something else. It isn't so much that you said you denied videogames to be a hobby, but your odd avoidance to admit that fact, and calling it a time suck just struck me as strange.

As I already said, I don't care what you do, or what you like. It's just untrue that every single video game takes a required skillset to play.

Again, absolutely no one in this thread has suggested that you should, ought, or need to play games. The conversation could be JUST "I don't play games." "Cool." If you don't want to play games, that is an awesome and reasonable choice. There is nothing to concede, because that's been stated explicitly multiple times in this thread.

But, sabotabby's hill to die on is the nonexistence of causal, story-based, and accessible gaming, so that's the issue.

I've said a number of times that you don't have to like them, you don't have to play them, this isn't about that.
