This was my sister's biggest complaint, too. She said, "I knew the visuals were going to be crap, but I at least expected the music to be good, and no, it was not. Nothing redeeming was happening here." [I haven't seen it yet, so I have no personal opinion.]

I always kind of figured Vada and Thomas J. were friends both because they were both outcasts and because they'd probably been friends since before Vada's life was quite so messed up (or at least before she was old enough to be as affected by it) and she was nicer back then. I'm not sure if your friend's homelife was as shitty as Vada's, but even if it was, that's an explanation, not an excuse. I'm sorry she was mean to you.

So, I'm sure this isn't what you mean, but like... you seem to be saying that if you're popular enough that if you say you dislike Thing A, that it's likely that people who like Thing A will see you say that and feel sad, then you're not allowed to say you dislike Thing A? Or, indeed, anything?
