Fanfic Prompts

I'd love to write fanfic for a person ( named user). I specialize in slash but can write femslash.

This is seriously the nicest thing and you are awesome, anon. What fandoms do you write? I have an idea or two, maybe, but I don't want to give you something you don't write for.

I still wish we'd gotten someone with a little more range. But he is nice to look at.

Agreed.

I never cared about movie Legolas, it seemed to me Orlando Bloom was just there to look pretty, but after rereading the TLotR, book Legolas became one of my favourite characters. He may not have a huge background or whatever, but he's much more charming and lovable than Bloom.

Boromir! I love him too. His death is really important, though, for other characters and also for his own growth. His whole arc ending with his death is why he's awesome, and he wouldn't be as awesome without it.

I agree. He's not super complicated, but charming and lovable is a good way to describe him. Bloom is just flat. And the friendship with Legolas and Gimli just isn't the same on screen. Bloom just can't give their growing respect for each other the same depth.

I love this kind of relationship. It is my second favorite kind of ship, after villain x villain ships. Villains being obsessed with heroes are totally my cup of tea. But I get why others might not like them. Frankly, I think some of the fandom has a tendency to romanticize these ships whereas I like them for the horrifying, creepy things they are. Give me all the dark, twisted obsessions.

I'm not even in this fandom and I'd read this.

What are your ridiculous headcanons, FS?

(Anonymous) 2020-04-02 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Tell us all about the crazy things you've come up with about your fandom faves, FS!

(Anonymous) 2020-04-02 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I was indifferent about her until I heard about her attitude to the pandemic. To boot, "there is always something every election year" made her sound like a stereotypical American who can't quite grasp that other countries are actual places filled with real people. Europe isn't on varying levels of lockdown because of the US elections.

The reason General Hux needs Kylo Ren to lose is because Kylo Ren dumped him. And Hux is like, "Nobody puts Baby in the corner!"

Any recs?

(Anonymous) 2020-04-02 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I kind of feel the opposite way, tbh: I liked the way the Voldemort thing was handled and growing-threat feel throughout the last couple of books (although it has been ages since I reread, admittedly), but it was the smaller-scale character stuff that felt really anticlimactic to me, with so many easy roads out taken.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-02 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think the darker aspects of their personalities go away, and I think they will likely keep making a lot of the same choices because that's what they want to do.

I do think they believe they're in love, and that's what interests me. I don't like those fandoms for the stories that end with them choosing to stop and settling down. I want to read about every other possible conclusion.

Yeah, I loved the first 1.5 seasons of Hannibal, but I didn't like Will/Hannibal. I'm too much of a goody-goody. I also stopped watching because I didn't like that Hannibal always came out on top; no one was ever going to beat him, and I didn't like that "heroic character embraces the dark side for love" was the 'happy' ending.

(That said, Killing Eve is on my current watchlist.)

I feel like the books were pretty much exactly what I expected them to be, but I've always been in it more for the world building than the plot or characters. The end result is the same as you though, I prefer fics to the actual novels by far.

So I'm known as headcanon girl in my ship fanon. I've got a whole range of them. Some are realistic extrapolations of canon (Sauron's desire/need for admiration and praise given his original name meaning "Admirable one" unlike Melkor who is fine with just being feared and hated). Others are just random things I make up for the fun of it. Like sleeping habits of characters (Sauron likes to sleep with his wolves in bed with him). Or details of personality (Sauron's love of order extending to every part of his life to the point that he wants every little thing to be in place at all times and obsesses about organization). Others are things like physical attributes of characters who aren't given them (Sauron in my mind is blonde until he loses his "fair form.")

I just like thinking about characters and all the little details of their lives. Sometimes it is serious where I'm taking canon and really exploring further with what has been given. Sometimes it is completely not serious and I'm just having fun and making stuff up. And then everything else inbetween. Either way, headcanoning is just fun.

That’s a very good point, and I wish more people understood this. You can find a character interesting without condoning their behaviour. There shouldn’t need to be a disclaimer, but sadly, here we are.

I actually found her to be intriguing as that kind of character who isn’t all they appear to be, her motives very ambiguous, which makes an analysis of her very fun to me. Whether someone is a full on villain or in that morally grey area, fans are allowed to like her, or find her compelling.

Maybe someday, we’ll get official explanations, but until then, there’s our own thoughts or even fanfiction.

I love Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz a lot. I'm really disappointed that we won't get more of her because of CN's bullshit, but she was incredibly compelling. TBH, people's opinions of Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz tell me whether or not I'll ultimately get along with that person. The ones who are adamant that she's evil, awful, unrepentantly terrible tend to be incredibly obnoxious people, anyway.
