They know absolutely nothing about each other. She is, quite literally, insane. He is a creepy bartender living in the back of a bar. The only thing that have in common is SHE IS HOT / HE IS HOT. He basically stalks her. Also, he is married. It's uber creepy and that she is attracted to him despite it make it creepier and shallow still. I thought him almost redeemed when he did the right thing and went home with his wife, but then he had to come back. Ugh.

There's more to music than just the lyrics, and even further, there's more to lyrics than just the bare meanings. There's the flow of the syllables, the emotions in the singing, the layering of vocals (or lack thereof) to harmonize or strengthen. Music is not a news report. It's art, and the comprehension of it runs deeper than vocabulary recognition.

It's a film. The winners were decided by the writers of the script before the routines were ever choreographed. Even if the winning team's routine was crap, it was still going to win.

Of course, if you're trying to write a story about the characters and you really think team green didn't do as good a routine as team red, I can see why you'd have trouble coming up with a motivation for the judges to choose them. However, if that's the only thing you can come up with, and there's no evidence in the script or performances that any of the judges think like that, it does seem racist.

Because while people do sometimes make decisions based on race in the real world, both for and against people of colour--it doesn't happen in a vacuum, and if you're ascribing racist motives to fictional people who haven't said or done anything that would imply they are racist, people will wonder where the racism has come from.

NB: I've never seen this movie. I don't especially want to. I don't have a dog in this race.

It's easily overshadowed by other young adult/children's fantasy which are far more accessible thematically. Doesn't help that it's out of print now either. =(

120: I think that even if you personally thought the other team was better, the underdogs were supposed to be objectively better in the film universe. The message of the film was to show that you don't need lots of money to be the best, right? So blame the film makers in not managing to make the routine convincingly better, not the characters in the film for acting as the script tells them to.

haha! I actually made mine after Closeface, because I couldn't believe I was tearing up after such a hopeful ep. Sundays was incredibly sad. :\

105: Aw, I know what you mean--I was very sad and distraught when I realized he wouldn't survive the end of episode 5, and I wanted to cry when I realized JN had been removed from the opening credits--though on the other hand I think More's death (and Henry angsting about it the next epp) is the pinnacle of the season...

But I will miss More on the show....as well as Jeremy Northam! :(

I can't quite decide if this is the same person or if the third season is really that depressing.

I don't follow the show regularly, but I have seen many episodes, including the one in 115. I admit, I found it surprisingly touching, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's the latter.

The third season is that depressing. "Sacrifice", "Closeface", "Alone", "Numb" (holy fuck "Numb" D: ), and "Passing" alone off the top of my head are absolute bawl-fests.

I think this just proves all movies of this caliber are ridiculously shallow in the first place. This is why i try to never watch them. Racist or not, I think the "lessons" being taught in these movies are all wrong.

Even, though, you really have to grasp the fact they only won to add to the plot.
