Re: Venting/Advice Thread
(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 01:11 am (UTC)(link)No fever. Just head congestion and pain in my head, ear canals, nose. Weird feeling in back of throat that I assume is either from nasal drip or swollen lymph nodes.
But nothing that seems COVID-specific (nothing respiratory, I can breathe, no coughing, no fever).
But I'm still scared.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 01:46 am (UTC)(link)If you're in an area where testing isn't available due to demand, you need to assume that it is COVID and isolate yourself accordingly for 14 days minimum and seek medical advice. Your close contacts should also be isolating for 14 days minimum. That means no going outside even for exercise, get essentials through contactless delivery, etc.
The wait and see approach if you are still leaving your home and have been in contact with other people/will come into contact with other people is not responsible. This virus is very very contagious even under the best circumstances.
This information should be easily found on government websites if you're confused, unless you live in a country that doesn't believe in science I guess.
Re: Venting/Advice Thread
do you usually get sinus infections around this time and have you tried taking any allergy medicine (claritin, benadryl, flonase) to make yourself feel better? Can't promise it will work or that it doesn't mean it's not COVID if it does work (because again, not medical professional) but if you continue to be worried see if you can talk to a doctor/get tested. I understand that's hard.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 02:07 am (UTC)(link)In my country we have good testing resources and low infection rates compared to most countries. It's possible your government only has limited testing capabilities and is not encouraging people to be proactive in seeking tests for milder symptoms. That may be why you are receiving different information.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 01:40 am (UTC)(link)I hope you feel better soon!

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 02:16 am (UTC)(link)A high percentage of people testing positive are unaware that they have COVID.
To say that you conclusively don't have it if you don't have this or that symptom is not the best way to think about it.
Re: Venting/Advice Thread
(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 02:09 am (UTC)(link)I have also possibly had COVID right after the shutdown went into effect, and since it was not possible to get tested then unless I was rich or maybe admitted to the ICU, I did actually stay home and not interact with anyone for two weeks.
It felt very different from how I do currently and involved fever and dizziness and a sharp stabbing sore throat. All the symptom lists said that sore throat was not a COVID symptom at the time, and coughing was. I coughed for maybe a couple hours one day and that was all, and my fever never broke 100, so at the time I thought I was being a hypochondriac by self isolating.
I would like to get tested with a reliable serum test, but since this was back in mid March, a test for current COVID would turn up negative if I did in fact have COVID then. Also I would have to take public transit to be tested.
Currently I only go out once a week for groceries and laundry, and to and from work, which has temperature and symptom checks and requires gloves and that we sanitize our work stations, toilet seats, faucets, etc every time we use them, in addition to the masks and social distancing that are required everywhere. If I have COVID symptoms or a fever when I’m supposed to go to work, I will stay home.
I have a huge problem with hypochondria and anxiety generally and being told that I might have a potentially deadly disease when my symptoms do not match does not help.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 05:24 am (UTC)(link)the consulting doc immediately and easily diagnosed a sinus infection and regular home treatment. sure enough it cleared up like a sinus infection do.
if you have access to a virtual visit or online consultation sort of thing, maybe that's a quick way to put your mind at ease? and also get a professional opinion on whether you need to be fast tracked for a test.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 06:19 am (UTC)(link)The people who get really sick with Covid at least in the respiratory department kinda way were the ones not realizing until it was too late that their lungs were already inflamed.

As others said, get tested if you can, definitely quarantine for the required time, but I hope this spares you some anxiety. I got one for myself for the same fears. Now that I have it I know if I feel ill, I can use it to monitor myself.
To take your blood oxygen just make sure your nails are clean (no polish) and place it over your pointer finger, press the button, and let it beam the light through your finger to measure it.
