Totally agree with you about Ginny-- she didn't care about Harry, she cared about 'the Boy Who Lived'. Plus she probably had like...a thousand wizard STDs. :| I'm not even huge on Harry himself, but I think he could've done better.

Oh no, a teenage girl had 3 boyfriends in two years! Obviously she must be a gigantic slut.

The timespan of them was closer to one year, actually, maybe a year and a half if you want to be generous. So yeah, I'd say flying through three dudes in a year is pretty skanky. Especially if she was supposedly into Harry this whole time. Why not just balls up and ask the guy out?

OMG I know, right? I also heard that she wore dresses that showed her ankles and that her sleeves went up past her elbows! There's also a rumour that the school robe allowed her, er, front chest parts to show through but I find that too distasteful to even contemplate and have therefore made no effort delve further into the matter. But she totally smiled at this guy in shop once and didn't even ask his name. Disgusting.

Well they haven't really pointed out misogyny in my comments so much as just shrieking the word at me. Apparently if I use a term that I personally apply to both men and women and drop it in a comment, serious business arguments have to go down. :| Because that's what the internet is, after all. ...Yeah. Okay. The sexism is strong with this one. And, as you seem incapable of understanding just where and how you are being sexist, let me break it down for you:

1) She's so shallow! Ginny "didn't care about Harry?" As she went so far as to risk her life in his name several times, I'd beg to differ. Sure, things kicked off with a celebrity crush, but unlike most fangirls, Ginny was actually granted the opportunity to get to know Harry. She knows that he's emotionally stunted and can be a bit of an asshole. She knew that once he gets an idea in his head, he's more than a bit obsessive (hello, stalking Draco, anyone?). She knows his flaws just as well as she knows his merits, and if her affection for him was just a shallow celebrity crush, as you imply, she would have dropped him like a hot potato as soon as she found out that he wasn't as awesome as rumor made him out to be.

2) "OMG GINNY IS A GIANT H0R!!1" Uh, no. Kissing a boy != having sex with them. Even if she had a new boyfriend every week, as some teenage girls are wont to do, that doesn't mean she's having sex with them. Determining that Ginny had sex with every boy she ever dated and then assessing her value as less than that of other female characters--marking her as "unworthy" of Harry Potter--ties in to the sexist virgin/whore dichotomy. Were Ginny a boy, would it have mattered if he'd gone through three girlfriends in a year? No, I didn't think so.

Okay... fine. She cared about Harry. Personally I don't think you can think of someone as your true love or whatever and still go around with other people. If the guy I 'love' is taken or uninterested, if I really love him, chances are I'm not just going to date the next schmuck that walks by. But hey, that's me, right? I don't think she's a slut because she went out with more than one person, I think she's a slut because she went from one guy to the next to the next to the next. That's being a slut. People don't always marry the first person they date; even those who do may have several partners in between their first love and the wedding date. That doesn't make them "sluts," it makes them people who don't go rushing into marriage blindly.

It's not "slutty" (I fucking hate that word, but that's a different rant) to have three boyfriends in a year, and it's not like she balled them up and tossed them away like tissues. Yeah, she kissed a guy in public. Big whoop. It 1) doesn't mean she had sex with him, and 2) does not mean that she is incapable of loving and/or marrying another person. (But srsly, even if she had sex with Dean, what the fuck would it matter? Teenagers experiment, as long as they were careful and used whatever protection the wizarding world dreamed up, wtfe.) So you wouldn't approve of Ron doing the same? Great, wonderful. However, you wouldn't call him a "whore?" If you'd call Ginny a slut, then why the fuck not? If a girl does one thing and is a slut, then when a boy does that same thing he's a slut, too. It's not "pretty on par," it's the same thing!

Dude, I don't even give that much of a shit about Ginny and you are being ridiculous.

For one thing? The way a relationship starts out =/= the way it will be forever and ever and ever. She had a total girlcrush on The Legend of Harry Potter~~~ when she was like... what, eight? Nine years old? OF COURSE SHE DID, she was an eight-or-nine-year-old girl. Plus she got to MEET the famous amazing legend wizard! You forget that most people went through the *OMG HUSSHHHHHHH JAW DROP* thing whenever Harry was mentioned for a long time, at first. Yeah, there were exceptions to that, which is also cool and realistic. But come on.

That said? Uhhh, where are you getting the idea that Ginny was in ~~~TRUE LOVE~~~ with Harry throughout all of that? And where the hell do you get the idea that if a girl honestly thinks she doesn't have the chance with a guy she likes better, she should never be with anyone else? Having three boyfriends throughout the timespan of a year/a year and a half when the most she was doing with any of them was kissing (which boyfriends and girlfriends tend to do!) Sorry that the idea of daring to make out in front of other people makes you think girls are sluts and guys are just as bad (... but apparently not sluts?), but that doesn't really work that way.

Also, you might wanna look at the canon again. Ron dated another girl. Hermione dated another guy. Harry fucking mooned over Cho Chang for books at a time. Why the heck should Ginny have sat around demurely with her hands folded in her lap when the guy she liked most was chasing after another girl? And where, exactly, do you get the idea that a girl deciding that the guy she's dating, she is not romantically interested in, and dumping them is somehow a slut or sleeping around? The point of dating is kinda to see if you and the other person are compatible, you know.

Well, quite honestly, what it boils down to is that, based on Ginny's character development and the way JKR put her forward, I'd be much surprised if she wasn't engaged in sexual activites. Also Harry wasn't into Ginny until like, book 6, so there's that.

I understand that that's the point of dating, however, for myself, I wouldn't be with person A when I had feelings for person B, because I'd feel like I was cheating person A of my full attention.

And I mean... come on man, just tossing somebody to the curb because you found someone else new and exciting? Kind of a jerk thing to do if you ask me, if you were already in a happy and commited relationship.
