I agree, they both didn't seem right for each other at all. And they both can't seem to think up good names for their children. I mean, really, ALBUS SEVERUS POTTER?

So you would agree, then, that having three boyfriends in a year makes you a filthy, filthy slut unworthy of a "good" boyfriend?

No I don't necessarily agree with his/her opinion about Ginny being a slut (I never really cared about her really, I was interested in the main trio. H/R/Her will be my friend OTP forever <3).

Doesn't mean I can't laugh at people who are getting so worked up over it just because she/he is calling A FICTIONAL CHARACTER a slut. So thanks for assuming that I agree with him/her just because I'm laughing at the wank ;) makes me laugh even more.

It's a logical conclusion that she would talk about a real person the same way, though. Which is my whole point: the idea that a sexually autonomous young woman is a slut, somehow less worthy of respect and certainly unworthy of That Guy's Affections, is a sexist attitude. It's one that is damaging in real life; if bamf_girl only thinks this way about fictional characters, sure. Fine. Whatever. However, it's clear she does not (I love how apparently thinking a slutty girl is a slut makes you a misogynist now.), so we're calling her out on the inherent sexism.

*shrug* Ok then, what if she said "That girl is sexually promiscuous" instead of slutty? Would more fingers be pointed at her for misogyny then just because she used the wrong word? What if she used the word slutty for a boy who made out with a bunch of chicks?

And speaking of whore-men, how do you know she wouldn't feel the same way if Harry had boikned tons of girls even though he loved Ginny? You know, sexual promiscuousness from BOTH SEXES can be considered wrong to some people. I'M NOT SAYING GINNY WAS PROMISCUOUS BY MY STANDARDS THOUGH, but maybe for bamf_girl she is. Not all people have the same standards on what is considered inappropriate for a person to do.

I don't know about

baranohanayome, but if she'd said "that girl is sexually promiscuous" coupled with the implication that being such meant she was not "good enough" to be with the hero, then yeah, I'd have reacted exactly the same way (i.e. I'd think she was being sexist and way judgmental).

And all the arguing might be over the top, but to be fair, calling a girl a slut because she kissed a couple of boys isn't exactly a low-key, unassuming conversation starter.

Hm, I didn't seem to read the part about her not being "good enough" for the hero. My mistake. I understand your point and I agree ( I don't think Ginny is a slut at all. I think having three relationships in one year is a bit weird myself, but eh. Ginny probably went through some issues we don't know about. Lol I'm rambling.)

I'm just getting the feeling that bamf_girl was probably just judging on Ginny by how she acted, not because of her gender. ASSUMING that she uses the word slut for boys too (I prefer whore myself, or harlot). Anyone can be a slut and/or not be good for someone, no matter what gender. If Harry had been a girl and Ginny a boy (wouldn't have that been awesome?), I'd think she'd might think that Man!Ginny wouldn't be good enough for Harry!girl.

To be honest, your opinion comes off as being completely ignorant of the cultural context in which people usually call girls sluts for having kissed three boys. Frankly, you're being an apologist and creating elaborate explanations to deny the simplest one, for reasons I don't quite understand. It's true, bamf_girl could think that way, but that doesn't invalidate the reaction of everybody here to attitudes that are, sadly, still pretty deeply ingrained in society.

While the word slut is in and of itself offensive, the most offensive thing of all is the implication that a woman's value hinges upon her virginity--that is to say, the idea that Ginny (or any woman, real or fictional) is in any way "unworthy" of affection based solely upon her sexuality.

So, yeah. Even if she'd just said, "lol Ginny is promiscuous so she doesn't deserve Harry," instead of "lol Ginny is a slut so she doesn't deserve Harry," it would still be sexist.

Um but slut is a word for someone who sleeps around. The term is used interchangeably between genders. If you think even girls don't use this, you're very mistaken.

No, "slut" is a word people use to degrade women who has had several sexual partners. There is nothing wrong with having sex often and with different people, as long as you don't hurt anybody. Recently, it's sometimes begun to be used for men as well, but the origin and meaning of the word are inherently sexist, and the word itself should be eradicated.

And just because girls use it, doesn't mean it's any less sexist. Women can be just as sexist as men. Yes, towards their own gender. When women fought for the right to vote, many many women were against it, saying themselves that women's brains were unfit for politics.
