What're y'all up to today?

I applied for a loan deferral. They're only doing them for two months at a time and while I'm not in dire straits (I still have a job and I _can_ pay my loan) I figured I'd apply and see if I could get it because not having to pay my loan for two months would allow me to build up a bit of a buffer if shit gets even worse.

I'm watching the movie Seberg (Kristen Stewart plays Jean Seberg) on Amazon Prime and trying to not be down in the dumps about another matter.

Spent all morning and afternoon working. I hate doing the new stuff they are training me to do. I hate that I have to be worried about my work after hours and on weekends. I am not even getting a pay raise or anything.

I went for a brief run this morning. I hadn't gone for a run in awhile so it was nice, but damn am I out of shape. I really need to get back to a regular meal and exercise routine. With corona I've been getting a lot of takeout from restaurants that also have wines to go, and at really, REALLY great prices, so I have been indulging in bottles of wine. However, last night I made a mushroom ragout over papardelle, using a little merlot I had leftover from another restaurant takeout meal, and it turned out AMAZING. I should probably just kick the exercise up a notch or two, lol.

Woke up early to organize the bathroom because a guy was coming to take down the wallpaper. He called about half an hour before he was supposed to be here to say he wasn't coming.

Got a bunch of job applications done. Unpacked some files. Helped my mom with some stuff she needed to do since she wasn't feeling well. Gave my cat her flea medicine (and she's been sulking and mad at me ever since).

Watched some Babylon 5. Figured out how I was going to spend some birthday money (Amazon gift card, so was deciding between books).

Now I've got a heating pad on my neck and watching Judge Judy with my mom.

Couldn't sleep, so I was up all morning, mostly just looking at random stuff online and watching YouTube videos, finally fell asleep in the afternoon and slept for like 5 hours, then ended up spending 2 hours on the phone with my mom, and now I'm thinking about making some food.

What's your favorite AU setting?

(Anonymous) 2020-07-16 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Modern or historical? Sci fi or fantasy?

Re: What's your favorite AU setting?

I like medieval fantasy where they have horses and swords but are also fresh smelling and not going to drop dead of plagues constantly.

My favorite will always be either adding a scifi or fantasy setting to a non-fantastical fandom or setting a scifi/fantasy fandom in a different scifi/fantasy setting. I just prefer scifi and fantasy stuff. That's what I'm here to read.

With my villain ships, there are some modern AUs that sometimes work. Some authors can pull off villains as heads of businesses AUs or heads of modern criminal organizations AUs well. But it has to be the right author and well written, there are way too many of these that are badly written.

Merfolk, vampires, other creature-AUs and fantasy in general. Also for-want-of-a-nail type AUS.

I have a weakness for soulmate AUs even though I have issues with the general premise of them. Like, is there supposed to be a scientific theory of how it happens (HOW?), or is it straight up magic? If it does seem to be magic, what does that imply about AUs that otherwise have a real-world, non-fantasy setting? Do different cultures ever have conflicting interpretations of what a "soulmate" is? (Someday I'd like to write a fic where one side thinks their soulmate is their destined spouse and the other side thinks they're a soul-stealing demon who must be slain for the person to be whole again.)

I really like a reincarnation AU with fandoms based in fantasy/sci fi, where they're in a modern/present day AU but have memories from their previous life.

I like modern and sci fi.

I don't mind modern fantasy, though. It depends.

Fantasy over sci-fi, historical over modern.

But there are some tropes, like reincarnated soulmates who meet again in every lifetime, especially if one half of the pairing is aware of the past lives and the other isn't, or time travel where a modern person meets their historical love interest, that just don't work for me, for some reason.

I'm also not a big fan of most sprawling epic fantasy series that base a lot on Tolkien (or from dnd stuff borrowed from Tolkien), and not a fan of a lot of books where a hot chick in leather/brooding man in a trenchcoat have sex with a variety of supernatural creatures, with bonus angst and increasingly ott plots. So that leaves, idk, small stakes and humorous fantasy, I guess?

I'm gonna be honest, there's not a single AU setting I don't like EXCEPT badly characterized "what if this one thing in canon changed" AUs. It has to be badly written tho, passably written ones are still my jam.

Music that makes you cry or tear up

(Anonymous) 2020-07-16 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
I'm currently listening to Orchestral covers of Linkin Park songs and got emotional over them.

For some reason, “Hero of War” by Rise Against always makes me cry. I saw them live a few years ago and just started ugly crying when they started playing it. It was pretty embarrassing, but the people around me were so nice and asked me if I needed anything. The song just breaks my heart.

There are lots of Linkin Park songs that make me cry now. I haven’t listened to “Leave Out All the Rest” or “Heavy” since Chester passed.

Advice-Bras, so maybe TMI a bit

(Anonymous) 2020-07-16 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
So, I'm a plus size woman who has always had large breasts. And I'm terrible at judging bras. I've gotten fitted before in stores, but then I'll change sizes, and different stores often differ in sizes anyway.

So I've accumulated a lot of different bras. I tend to wear the wireless bras more at home and save the wireless bras for business/formal type situations because I've not yet found a wired bra that doesn't poke me or feel uncomfortable.

That being said, I know at least some of the ones I wear aren't supporting me properly, and I know some don't fit right. And I've had a lot of back pain recently that I've decided might be in part due to bad bra fitting. So I need to sort through them. But I don't really know how to tell good fit.

I can't exactly go into a store right now, and even if I did I couldn't take all my own bras in and ask them if those ones fit. So is there a good guide for how to tell bra fit, support, anything else I should look for in a good bra?

And does a bra that both supports while still being comfortable and not poking with wire actually exist?
