One, I think I would like the Lebowski version of almost any character. Two, as I recall wasn't people's primary issue with that version of Thor that they felt it was fat-shamey? Which I think is a slightly separate thing

Three, I had to laugh at "They don't act like royalty, they're bratty and entitled." That actually seems pretty correct to me!

My issue with Lebowski!Thor is 1. the characterization was really fat-shaming with the way it was written as a joke and 2. Thor is my #1 MCU wank material and he just wasn't hot to me that way and I'm totally just that shallow.

No offense but this just seems like kind of a weird combination of ideas somehow? Like isn't there a dissonance in saying Thor shouldn't be fat because, one, fatshaming is bad and, two, Thor needs to be hot?

I'm with you on Ragnarok Thor and delighted when I see someone else with that view. It feels so lonely sometimes.

I'm 50/50 on Endgame Thor. I felt like there was a LOT they were *trying* to do given all the losses he's suffered but there was still too many echoes of Ragnarok Thor in there for my liking. Also the comments about his appearance were a bit much after a while. Having said that, I'm glad that in the final battle he didn't get a magical makeover and still fought while on the bigger side. I think that did mean a lot to some people.

I know what you mean about the royalty thing. Though it will seem anachronistic to most these days, royalty in the past has much more responsibility than just hand shaking and waving. If societies in fiction operate along those lines then I want to see the characters at least have some semblance of that duty and responsibility in their characters.

I haven't seen Black Panther in a while, but I got the impression the people of Wakanda generally had plenty and there was little to no poverty or injustice, which is more important to me than "Are the royals never annoying or dressed in designer clothes?" It would have been a different story if Shuri built robot toys while her people starved or something. Not coming from a country with a monarchy, its pretty hard to care about other people's royalty if they aren't despotic (or maybe have no real power, even, besides wealth and fame).

I'll say that the only time I feel like there was a genuine connection to the people of Asgard for Thor was Ragnorok (rather than like the knowledge that he was the ruler of Asgard) and that was barely, so I actually agree with you there. But I like all the Thors, because that entitlement doesn't rate so bad that it ruined him for me except for movie 1, which was corrective.

I ALSO agree with you that T'Challa was mighty entitled, but I also think that was the point of his movie. He got way too comfortable and lost his entire throne.

Shuri is a kid genius and visibly Black, I would have thrown a shit-fit if she didn't get to be at least as entitled and bratty as Tony.

Why do you expect members of royalty - as in people explicitly feeling entitled to their wealth and elevated position through the mere fact of being born in the ruling family - not to act as if they feel entitled to their positions? Where do you get your vision of monarchy from? From Disney? Monarchist propaganda? News about currently existing royal familes whose duties and foremost powers are (thank fucking God) much much more restricted than Thor's or T'Challa's? They are decorative pieces - of course they tend to be inobtrusive and mostly very careful about not being perceived as feeling entitled, because that's what keeps them in money and status. This means shit about their actual thoughs - you don't have to look hard to find evidence that many members of royal families do feel very entitled to having everything and doing very little, you just have to go under the upper PR layer.

Hated the fat-shaming of Thor, noticed that Thor himself didn't seem to mind being fat, it was just that all the other characters minded, would fuck Fat Thor and Hunky Thor, preferably both at the same time.
