(Anonymous) 2020-07-19 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)There is so much to explore in fiction. Sure I have some OTPs. I also multiship. The idea that OTPing is the only option is completely ludicrous.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-19 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)It seems like people who multiship are less obsessed with their ships and emotionally removed, and in that sense are less of a fan. Doesn't mean that they're bad writers or that their shipping is false.
I make exceptions for the few canon love interests that I like. I ship Vimes/Vetinari but I also like Vimes/Sybil.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-19 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)But you must hate television show writers because most characters I can think of have more than one relationship.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-20 12:57 am (UTC)(link)I definitely have my ships, but sometimes I tire of one, want to have another -- but I always come back later. To all of them . In all my fandoms. It just depends on my mood. I don't always want to have mac 'n' cheese for dinner, sometimes I want sushi. Sometimes I want tacos.
Also, I don't understand "break up your ship" -- Nah. That ship stays in tact. Now I just go write another fic about another dynamic I like featuring one of the persons in question. They don't have to break up. Or be ruined. It's that easy!

(Anonymous) 2020-07-20 05:26 am (UTC)(link)I disagree with you, though. I've read plenty of good fics by multi-shippers. And being a shipper doesn't necessarily mean you want two characters to get together in canon. For a lot of people it just means you're interested in exploring a sexual/romantic relationship between the characters. That doesn't mean you can't also be interested in exploring a sexual/romantic relationship between one of those characters and a third character.
I'm playing devil's advocate here, because as I said, I'm a HUGE mono-shipper myself. But your secret is just so OTT and judgmental that I really can't agree with it, even though multi-shipping holds zero appeal for me.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-20 08:23 am (UTC)(link)Other times I might start out shipping A/B, then realize I actually like B/C's chemistry/dynamic bettter and end up shipping them hard and never go back.
Sometimes I might go back and forth between A/B and B/C depending on what happens in canon.
Other times I might halfheartedly ship A/B and think it's cute enough but not be super invested, and it's only because C hasn't shown up yet or I haven't really seen B/C interact yet (because it hasn't happened, or I'm not all caught up with canon yet), but once I do, I'm super into them and never waver.
There's even one instance where I watched a remake first, liked A/B, then shifted to B/C, but by the end I couldn't stand either and the only pairing I even kind of liked was A/D, but then I watched the original version and I was all about A/B throughout and never changed my mind.
There's another example where I was all about A/B until I happened to read a fic that was good enough to convince me that B/C actually made more sense, and although that only lasted like, a week, and I went back to preferring A/B, in the back of my mind I was still okay with the concept of B/C (and would've much preferred it to how the series actually ended, but that's an entirely different story).
Then there's one where A/B are canon but the writing for the relationship is a disaster and in theory I like B/C better because I think the writing for that relationship is better, but the A/B actors are just so great together it's really hard not to like them.
My point is, there's no one right way to be a shipper, and you're an idiot.
