Re: Writing thread

This is hypothetical, so it's probably OT, but I was curious about how sacrilegious it would be to write 'missing scene' for another persons fic. Basically when I read a fic I love I'll kinda daydream about little details between the scenes, like last night I spent an hour daydreaming about the thought process and what happened after a flashback type scene. I spent do long thinking about it that I kinda wanted to write some of it down (like in a notepad, just little details type of thing) so I wouldn't forget it. It made me wonder if it was actually a thing or how acceptable it would be.
I don't actually have any plans on doing this, since I can't write let alone finish anything that I try to work out, and even if I somehow manage to write a scene I thought was good enough I wouldn't actually have the courage to present it to the author either through a message or whatever.

My question is basically, how would you feel if someone left you a comment or a message, or even posted an 'inspired' fic that was basically random scenes you didn't include in your work?

I think it'd be fine to write it for my own interest, but no way in hell would I show it to the author unless they specifically solicited such a thing.

I was actually read to open my app just to jot things down before I considered how weird it might be, though really writing down my daydreams isn't any different than conjuring them up in the first place. But it's definitely a whole different matter to share such a thing for sure. I've been trying to weigh up the pros and cons, (hypothetically of course) but even if they're flattered by it, the awkwardness would definitely win out I think.

To be honest, I'd be flattered if someone gave that much thought to one of my fics.

That was the idea that got me thinking, since my whole daydreaming about a fic is entirely due to being so in love with and being inspired by the work.
When I continued to weigh the pros and cons, I only considered my own inspiration. Less about how it'd come across to the author. But when I read the anon's response above yours, I realized that the idea of someone writing little scenes they'd daydreamed about might fall short of the real thing.

Like, for instance, I know that I can get a little particular about how I perceive and understand different characters. So there's no real reason for the author not to feel slighted, if my interpretation of their character drastically differs from how they characterized them in their fic. Like I can see people gritting their teeth to be kind about now feeling the need to complement someone who obviously means well, but who can't write for shit, or who completely hits you in the berserk button by interpreting everything you wrote in a way you completely hate.

I'd be flattered if someone was inspired by my work but this is a really subjective response. I would soooooo not recommend just doing this to a random author because you'll run into a wide range of reactions from pleased to OMG HOW DARE YOU.

Yeah absolutely. The more I think about it, the more I realize just how badly it could go;; It kinda sucks, since the entire intention behind it is wholly just to show exactly just how much the fic inspired me. But I think the first anon who replied had a good point about the soliciting thing.
Like I'm terrible at reviews since I can never find a balance between- 1% default and boring, to 1,000% where I am basically nonsensical and screaming, all the way to 1,000,000% where I've basically torn my heart out and smeared it on the screen only for my tears to fall in time to paint the furious words of whats left of my soul. (like for instance as you can clearly see, I am at 1,000% right now;;)

What I'm (hypothetically, since I still can't write/finish things for shit) going to do is try to write my daydreamings out for myself as best I can, try and figure a way to make my blithering mess of words work together in a pleasant way. Just so I can remember just how much this fic made me feel, so maybe I can read it again and again, with my added extras to kinda relive that same feeling of amazement each time.

I'll mention in my review how much the fic affected me, had me stop for hours imagining just what happened after that scene and so fourth, how it impacted me that much that I had to write those daydreams down for myself, because I love this fic that much I'd never want to miss a second of their lives. (or something, and again hypothetically since writing isn't in the cards for me)
In that case the reverence is still there, but there's no awkward need to accept my offer of reading them, and certainly no reason to ask for them theirselves unless they actually wanted to see them.

(It's late, and I think my brain shut down halfway through reading this, so sorry if this makes no sense, and also sorry for the late reply! Time got away from me! <3)
