Pretty good, definitely inspired by The Amityville Horror. Writing is more polished than Darcy Coates' work, which has been recced here before.

I fished a copy of Dianetics from a box of free books few years ago, been reading that on and off for a month, because it's so damn overwritten. About halfway through.

Also there were two bundles of Warhammer 40k e-books that I snatched during the spring and summer, so that's my guilty pleasure trashy sci-fi quota filled for the next several years. Just started Ravenor by Dan Abnett.

I'm nearing the end of the second Expanse novel. Big ol chunks of scifi aren't typically my style, but it's been fun so far.

I’m reading Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl because somebody recommended it to me and thought I would like it. It’s okay, but I’m finding the main character very frustrating. At least it’s not as cringy as Ship It was.

'The Calligrapher's Daughter' a historial fiction novel spanning 30 years of the life of a Korean girl around the time of the Japanese occupation of korea. I'm over 100 pages in and she's still only, like, an early teen.

House of Salt and sorrows.
bit spooky but not too much (i hate horror). an interesting twist on the 12 dancing princesses.

ongoing read: dance with dragons (most "current" game of thrones book). and omg its INTERESTING but i read like continous 3h last week and only made it 100 pages further. such a SLOG.

Just finished Mhairi McFarlane's If I never Met You which I really REALLY enjoyed. I was saddened to read a review after the fact on a site I peruse for romance novels and saw they had given it a low score, but only because it turns out the book is more of a woman's fiction book, and not a romance novel (didn't realize the former was a genre). Anyway, really enjoyed the MC's growth and fell in love with the love interest, lol.

Currently have a few more romance reads lined up, and will likely read the Toni Morrison's Bluest Eye when I'm ready, along with a collection of essays on the issues of private funding and non profits. And maybe an environmental science paper if I find something interesting to me.

I just finished reading the first Temeraire novel yesterday (loved it!) and now I'm reading The Shadow of Kyoshi (also loving it!). I'm also in the middle of Orc Road Trip on my tablet (it has its moments), 'cause it was on a free/bargain ebook mailing list I joined a while back.

What is everyone doing this weekend?

Right now I am waiting to see if my power will be going out or if I will have to evacuate. Someone hit a gas line (about 11 minutes away from me) and it needs to be fixed.

Ignoring that, I'll be playing a lot of Apex Legends this weekend. I also have to sew the limbs onto my sister's crochet monster. It is almost done!
